Hello all, new member and new owner of a 2012 Tenere.
I purchased the OEM side cases last week and when they arrived, there were no locks. The instuctions state locks were provided with the bike. After an exhaustive search I can not seem to locate them, and no they are not under the seat.
The dealer, local rep and regional rep have no idea where they are, or where they should come from.
So, I am turning to the real experts for assistance...
Where are my side case locks? Or more accurately, where were yours?

Mine came with the bike supplied by the dealer... Three of them for the three boxes keyed identical to the ignition. I would go back to the dealer. My understanding is that is standard with the bike.

The dealer called back as I was posting. They are being told the locks should be taped under the seat. Since mine are not, they are getting a set of locks keyed for my bike. Their assembly instuctions and inventory sheets have no mention of the locks.
I was able to get the bags mounted without the locks, and they are working to fix the problem, I'm happy for now

Just did the same and my dealer is calling Yamaha Canada about it.
Makes me wounder if I'm not missing anything else? There is no tool kit to be found, does one come with this bike?

The salesman at the dealer where I bought mine did not know about the toolkit at all, but he did make sure I got the lock cylinders.

Just a note on the lock sets. Be sure to use some blue of pink loctite on the small mounting screws that hold the locks in place. They will most likley come loose if you don't. mine did and fell out. :-[ I was lucky to be at the dealer for something else at the time and got squared away right away.

Pretty sure mine were under the seat. Use your supplied key to remove the seat, and they should be there. As I recall, they are tied in to the bike's locking system, so they are shipped with the bike, not the panniers. R

That is for sure Norcal. Don't be an idiot like me and think if you tighten them real good they won't come out. They will. One of my locks is somewhere on Forest Road 300 in Arizona.

Just got a call from my dealer about my missing locks :-[. The Yamaha Canada rep told him if we/I can't find the locks with the bike I would have to purchase a new set . I removed both seats from the bike and the silver cover from under the back seat and their no where to be found. I have a message sent to Yamaha Canada asking why I should have to purchase a set of lock for my OEM cases when they were never with the bike. Not sure when I'll get a response. My dealer in St. Johns is very good he said he would give me dealer price on the locks, thats great and all but they should have been with the bike. The guys at the dealer are great but if Yamaha Canada can't get this lock issue taken care of, I may have my last Yamaha product. I feel this will affect my local dealer more them Yamaha Canada but how else can I get my message across. I'm don't feel right with going to my deal and saying I'm not buying anymore Yamaha products, I don't think its there fault/issue, maybe a little. If Yamaha Canada is giving answers like this, I'm afraid of what they would be like if I had a big warranty or other issue with my Tenere. I know this rant is not going to make any difference but maybe if this helps others know to check for their locks when they pick up their bike, so you don't have to go through this foolishness.
Sorry about my foolish ran. ::009:: I feel better now.
If the weather was better I would ::021::

There's always two sides to every story, but that's not saying one is more right than the other either. If your dealer is really great, they'd eat the cost to make it right. I'm not sure what sort of relationship you have with your dealer, or even what a complete rekey would cost. If you're sure the S10 won't be your last bike, I'd reinforce what you just said here directly to the manager. These sorts of things can definitely leave a bad taste in your mouth and that taste can last a long time...

Mine came with the bike under the seat like most, so I assume with them being there there's nothing to "miss" during prep. I dunno...I guess the more I think about it, maybe your dealer should have been the one who contacted Yamaha Canada directly and represented your case... :-\

When I picked up my bike there was some damage in shipping, from what I was told. A mirror was broken and the side of the engine was scratched. They got a auto glass company to replace the broken mirror until the replacement parts came in. I took the bike as was and was called in a few weeks later to get the new parts installed. I took it with the scratches because I was waiting all summer for the bike and was crazy excited to get it. When I picked up the bike the guy said something about a check list but I never seen it and was to green to know about the prep list a dealer as to do with all bikes before sending it to the customer. Still can't say if it was a dealer thing or Yamaha issue since I did not know at the time it should have came with these locks. All i was given was the bike and the manual with the 3 keys, 2 black and 1 red. If I can't get it taken care of with the next week or so I'm going to return the OEM Top Case and inside bag and just get a 3rd party case from an on-line retailer. Maybe a GIVI or something..

That sucks. I heard from the dealer again today.
They passed my key code to "Yamaha", and replacement locks are in the mail. No idea when they will get them or if they will be keyed to match my ignition. The parts manager assured me that if they don't come keyed, he will pay the cost to have the tumblers replaced.
His quote, and one that reassured me, is that they are there for me for as long as I have the bike. More later.

Nften, sounds like you are literally stuck between a rock and a large body of water in regards to dealer choices where you live. Someone between unpacking the crate and yourself took the lock set. Sure maybe Yamaha forgot them, but I doubt it. All the misc small parts for assy come in a bag, as do the lock set but under the seat as noted. Hope your dealer takes care of you as many don't or say they can't.

Which dealer are you working with? Always on the lookout for good ones - they can be hard to find.
