Was camping near Ouray , Colorado last week with my two year old Kelty tent never in rain before . Rain shower developed and and tent developed numerous leaks . Seems the fly was not rainproofed very well. But my new Big Agnes air mattress worked great.

On ADVRider there's a thread about collapsed tent pole length. I looked in there when I picked my Kelty tent. I should have spent a bit more and gotten one that's more screen and less material with maybe two entry doors. I make it work just fine, though, as it's only me when I use that one. Otherwise it's my wife and myself in our redverz attacama. That thing is nuts.

Me too. I’ve been using a Thermarest pad which is very good but I’m hoping to move to the next level with my new Helinox cot. Question is, can you use the pad and the cot together?

Yes. I have this combination in Chinese versions and sleep like a log. So comfortable.

I recently purchased a Mountain Hardware Mineral King 2 tent. My check list on test were quality product, easy to put up, and poles and all had to fit in the top case. So far I have used it once and I was great.

Are you guys talking off the motorcycle or park and camp? I have experience with self inflating pads and found hey are super heavy and bulky. Not a good choice for motorcycle camping.
The only camping I do is while traveling on my bike.
Super heavy and bulky does not accurately describe the Sea to Summit sleep pad that I have. Here are the specifications from their web page;
  • Weight: 3 lbs 3 oz (1.4 kg)
  • R-Value: 4.1
  • Length: 79" (183 cm)
  • Width: 25" (64 cm)
  • Thickness: 3.1" (8 cm)
  • Packed Dimensions: 8.5" x 13.5" (21.6 x 34.2 cm)
For me, a good nights sleep is just as important as a comfortable motorcycle.
Here is the video review that convinced me to purchase the Sea to Summit sleep pad;

I also only camp when on my bike. High Command will not even contemplate camping under any circumstances so this gives me more space for extra luxuries. So a bigger tent, Helinox cot and thermarest pad make sense to me!
I’m leaning towards a Hilleberg tent again, I do like them and they don’t tape seal the seams like other makers do so you don’t need to worry about re sealing them

I have a cableas xpg ultralight 2p tent that ive used for a few years and ive been happy with it. I was in a storm bad enough to have to hold the tent poles up from the inside to keep it from collapsing. It faired well with only a slightly bent pole the I bent back to straight, The coleman tent next to me collapsed and had a huge tear in it from the wind. I was happy with the xpgs performance and use it for moto camping and backpacking.

I had a Coleman tent a few years ago. By the time it was 5 years old all the tape had peeled off the seams. I won’t buy Coleman again. I’m hankering after the Hilleberg staika now. It’s from their black label range and looks bomb proof. But that price! Wow! Still.....

 I like quality stuff and am usually prepared to pay, but I'd find it difficult to justify that given the use I would give it.
I know, if you can then why not and I totally get that and couldn't argue with it, but for camping I'm quite happy with my recently aquired Vango omega 350. Decent enough quality, good pack size and weight, loads of room for me and my kit and reasonably quick to pitch - nowhere near as quick as my Kampa air tent though. Like you my Mrs won't entertain camping these days - unless we are in my tin tent with all the creature comforts.

I use a Prohiker Companion tent and an Exped Downmat 9 airbed and it all fit in the exhaust side of the Yamaha pannier including the sleeping bag. The airbed is insulated and comes with a build in hand pump. Because of the insulation, you are not supposed to blow it up by mouth to prevent moisture. The pump is awkward to use and time consuming, so i made an adaptor of a plastic screw bottle top and a tire valve and use the electric pump out of my tire repair kit to fill if.
Need 1 of these mate to inflate the Exped, like you said the hand pump is annoying it me takes 130 compressions to inflate on my Exped 9.

A rider was telling me that NatureHike from Aliexpress are basically rebranded MSR tents for a fraction of the price. I have done zero research on them, and there's the whole IP theft aspect, just throwing it out there.

Me, I've been using a Eureka El Capitan 3 for about 8 years now. Has never let me down, plenty of space, and comfy in most weather. A touch heavy and on the larger packed size of things though. Takes up probably 20L of a 30L dry bag.

For some reason, the only pic I can find of it setup

I have a NatureHike air mat from Aliexpress and its junk quality, im comparing it to the couple of Expeds i have.

You guys seriously need to get one of these!

Rechargable Pump

IMG_7421.JPG
It recharges via any Mini-USB plug, and a charge will last for about 60-minutes of run-time.
As small as it is, it is super-powerful!
I have the Insulated Static-V Luxe-SL, and it fully inflates it in about 10-seconds!
Also inflates my other Big-Agnes Insulated Air-core pad in about 15-seconds!
And my Luxe-Pillow in the time it takes to open the valve and close the valve.
The rubber cone adapter will fit just about anybody's Air-Bed, and it will also "Vacuum" the air out of your pad in the morning.

I will never blow into another air-valve as long as I live!

+1 for the Marmot tent! It sets up easily, doesn't leak, and cross-vents well. It also has a closable roof vent, with a prop to keep it open. Just make sure you double-size the tent you want. I'm 6'6", a 4 man=1 man, plus gear.
I have used the Thermarest Basecamp(2" self-inflate), which gets uncomfortable after 6 hrs. I upgraded to REI's Camp Dreamer(4" self-inflate), I'm good for about 8 hrs.
I strap it to the Givi Trekker Outback pannier.
I'll be getting the Pump Bag version for next summer, as it takes up much less space, and will fit in a dry bag.

I'm also using a UCO candle light, it helps keep the condensation down. It weighs 8.8 oz with a candle. Just make sure to order the beeswax candles(approx 12 hr burn), and a neoprene padded case. The original candle is junk. The Citronella candles don't work well as bug chasers, but still burn for 9 hrs.

Still haven’t pulled the trigger on a tent. I really like the Hilleberg Staika 2 and it’s a really tough tent that will easily cope with what I need. But £1100? So I’m now re examining the option of a Mountain Hardware Trango 3. Not as tough but able to cope with my needs and as a three man tent instead of a two I’d have extra room.

I hope it never comes to that!! I have no trouble blowing up my pad. It's only 20 breaths and pillow is only 5 breaths.

I wanted to like mine but it's just a hassle and mess. I have used it on two trips and will be getting something more simple. This last trip I dozed off and forgot to put it out. Not good.34A41945-B96F-4B4F-948E-ABB802452D9C.jpegE8D30C81-3311-4B04-9BF0-4E824F01A971.jpeg

As long as I don't bump it around, mine's been trouble-free. Takes care of the inside moisture. Worth the effort for me.
A torch lighter melts the remains of a candle, with a stick through the window to hold it. Set it on a rock to cool... remember not to lose the candle follower, lol
