2014 ES - Almost new. About 700 miles. Rode to work this morning and parked it in the sun all day. Came out and saw this stain under what I'm guessing is a coolant vent hose. Any idea why this would have happened?

And after warming up the engine for about a minute, I took off in first and it immediately stumbled and almost stalled. It ran a little funny off idle the rest of the way home, too. I wouldn't think the two events are connected, but...

Those are the fuel tank breathers....pretty sure. Was uour fuel tank very full? If its over full some can spill out through the breathers when on the sidestand.
I'm no expert though so Im more than happy to be corrected by the many folk on here that know better than me. Hope you'll get some more replies!!

Yes, fuel tank breather and overflow. If the tank was full and it was a warm day the fuel would expand and some would leak out of the overflow.

::026::, I have a 2014 ES and after fueling to the brim on a warm day, mine has marked its spot a time or two. nothing to be concerned with. Just look and see if it does it all of the time.

Yup. that would make sense. I filled up - to the brim - one night last week. It was a cool night. Then it sat in the garage until yesterday when I rode the 15 miles to work. Where it sat outside in the sun; and it was a warm day.

Thanks!

Now, the stumbling issue...

Also a Throttle Body sync.

If that doesn't do it, try a clutch-mod-jumper just to see how differently that "map" makes the motor behave.

That's what led to so many ECU-reflashing back in the early days of the PDP arrivals.
The rest is now history.

You can ignore much of the advice so far. ;D

You have a CA model, which means you have a charcoal canister inline with one of those vent lines. If the overflow puked gas, odds are high that the vent line did too, so liquid fuel got into the charcoal canister, blocking the flow of vapors, which is what caused the stumble and poor running.

It should evaporate over time, or you could remove the charcoal canister and never have the problem again. FYI, this can also happen if the bike falls over on its side.

I was reading along without signing in and said to self, I wonder if that's a California bike. I bought a new KLR here in So. Oregon. Unknown to me the dealer sells Calif. bikes to broaden his customer base. On hot days I had hard start situations, read on forum that charcoal canister was a known culprit. I have since removed it. Problem did not clear entirely but much improved hot starts.

I have vented the fill neck which allows me to top it off easier. Live in a hot part of Caliifornia and rarely have this problem... but I fill the tank while on the sidestand and NOT centerstand.

Forgot to mention. Carefully open the the fuel cap. You may hear air rushing in.
Close the cap and go for a ride. If it runs better for a bit it's a sure sign the canister was full.
