I'd go for the Touratechs. Zega Pro ... can't be beaten. Trax ... not for me.

Yup, Zega Pro. No question!!!

My side cases should be on before year end. The Pro is a true step up from the traditional Zega though either will be a fantastic set up. Never had a leak, easy to work with, etc., etc.

Something isn't more expensive if it works. Touratech works.

May I ask what was the price for all three cases from Touratech?
I can get Trax for $1519 for all three cases with hardware and free shipping.

Also, what sizes did you get? 45L and 38L?

I am going with 31/38 as I do not want the cases to extend wider than the bars, which they do with the 38/45.

Yep, you'll pay more than that for the Zega Pros. You would have to look up the Zega for their cost as I know it is cheaper than the Pros. Too many variables to compare price as you can select the finish on the Zega Pros and you can select the standard Zega. You also have the option of Rapid Trap or not. A quick trip to their website would provide you with the info you seek so you can compare what you want to the Trax.

As I stated earlier, something isn't more expensive if it works. Touratech works. You have to decide what works for you. I've gone through a lot of different cases over teh years and always come back to Touratech. I do like the Givi bags (think KTM) for their function though. Their looks can be a bit polarizing.

I've had both. Zega Pro's on my Vstrom and now Trax on my S10. The only draw back to the Zega Pro's are they do not make a quick release adaptors for them when using the Evo's. So if you don't mind leaving the racks on your bike all the time then I'd go with the Zega Pro's (if money is not a huge factor). With the S10 I wanted to run with no racks sometimes! BTW my Anodized Zega pros are for sale here http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2838.0

The description on the Touratech website shows that the width of the 31/38 is 37 inches, and 41 inches on the 38/45. For the added storage space, that doesn't seem like much of a difference (in width). Even if the cases on the 38/45 extend wider than the bars, is 4 inches really that significant? Just curious. I want to order them for my new (as of last Friday) ride (the black one) but can't decide on the size. Thanks.

Just to throw some additional info into this thread, I asked FredZ to measure the width of his TraX boxes (37 and 45L) installed. He came up with ~38 in the rear, but due to the "splaying" of the SW-Motech racks (not sure if this has been changed or not on the new version) they are approximately 40" in the front. According to Fred, the 38" rear is approximately the width of the handlebars with the handguards installed.

These are the new racks, Chris and as I stated in another thread, I see no difference in the front to back "splay" that follows the bikes lines, than in the original racks I had.

As I mentioned to Chris in answer to his PM, that front of the box measurement is difficult for one person to measure, but I believe it to be 40".

Close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades, as my dad would say. Thanks again for taking the measurements, Fred.
