What do you use on your spokes to stop theme rotting ? . They are a bit of a pain as you have to be very careful not to use anything that could get on the disc's and also run off onto the tyre .

Seems to protect them from UV rays. :)

It's not so much what I put on them...it's what I avoid with them. I make a very serious effort to keep them away from clean soapy water. Not just the spokes, but the entire bike says away from that stuff. Bad stuff, stay away.

I second. Mud ,dirt ,grim. As far as soap, from time to time some grim has to be washed off.

The OP is in the UK, where this seems to be a very real issue. It's fairly rare in the US, for what ever reason, our lack of bike washing not withstanding, (I've washed the bike once in 82k, and it didn't have a happy ending), or just our environment.

AFC-50 seems to be the most common product used for this problem.

Use whatever is cheap and comes in handy, as all you'll do is slow the rot down. My spokes were covered in black/grey patches after 18, months, so I claimed on the warranty and had them replaced with stainless ones, that I purchased at my own expense. Now I just wash the crap off them with a hose and brush and they sparkle beautifully. :)

I don't really worry about it on this bike, but on my other bikes that have spoked wheels I use paste wax. Once or twice a year I sit down on a stool with a few beers and take the time to wipe on and polish the wax off of each spoke individually. Seems to work great.
Spray on furniture polish is basically just aerosol wax, so that might be a great suggestion. Although, it wouldn't take very long and you'd miss out on the beer drinking part of the job?

Wind~~~ and soap and water when Dust, Dirt, or Mud is applied.

As much as I would like the spokes to be shiny and good looking... these spokes are not going to be that. Clean should be good enough.

It's the Salt. The UK hyways department love spreading hundreads of thousands of tons of rock salt on our roads every winter.

Just wash them off every week and when they are really bad, change for S/S ones.

Dam salty roads.

Was at a Dealer the other day and they said ArmorAll makes a automotive wheel spray that keeps the spokes from rusting. They told me every time they've had to replace a set of spokes they coat them with the stuff and have never had a customer complain again. Haven't tried it yet but I intend to soon.

My wife says that the only time mine gets washed is when I get caught in the rain... ::025::
