2012 Super Tenere, 40k miles and counting. My long yearly rides are nothing compared to how it used to be. Actually a rarely go anywhere. One ride to Death Valley in 4 years. 40,000 miles just riding around town. It is ridiculous. Now the questions.
Would you think that 40k means getting up there and from now on there will be things to worry about? Still have a year and a half on an extended Y.E.S warranty. Just renewed for an additional two years in January of this year. Is 40k already too much?
The bike is up to date on all service work. Dealer serviced with the exemption of oil, spark plugs, air filters and brake pads that I do myself.
I'm pretty anal, meticulous to the extent that I drive myself nuts over the most insignificant things. I know, it's an incurable disease!

I am thinking about trading the bike in for something like a Suzuki M109R. Comfortable enough to do 150 miles a day rides in the Sierra, to Tahoe, Reno ,etc.
I see no reason in keeping what I have if I don't take advantage of the capabilities of the Super T. Maybe I'm just looking for something different or I'm just going bonkers here.
What do you guys think?

Well to be honest, personal decisions are just that, personal decisions!
However, to give you some useful information I did own M109R. Mental acceleration, but has the first three gears heavily restricted to 50%hp, they sell a plug and play unit that will unleash all of that. Will blow the doors off almost anything. The hp and ftlbs don't tell the real story. Unless you have owned a cruiser style bike before, be aware, larger turning radius as well as slower turns. The 240? Rear doesn't help. But fun fun fun! And shaft drive, there are also many aftermarket products, the seat does suck though. They have a cult-like following in Germany.
Ride one. Freedom of choice is a wonderful thing.

Wow, What's my desired flavor today...
;)
LOL
Seriously, I always have the hots for some new toy and while I'm not riding as much as I used to the Super Tennis shoe is still in the garage.

To satisfy the different cravings, I've usually had more than one bike at a time.
Now I'm trying to get down to just one bike, and the Tenere may just be the solo bike.

Anyone want a completely gone through (like new now) 1996 Honda Magna 750 V4? Very fast bike and great for around town!

First off, 40K miles is nothing for the bike. More appropriate question at about 140K miles. But, in the context of justifying a different bike? YUP, lots of miles ;)

I really have the bug for a newer bike (possibly a 2019 S10), or a second bike along the lines of a sport touring. Or a small dirt bike. Or a.... Argh. This is the longest I have kept a bike (4 years).

Well, between being easily satisfied, AND not liking to part with my money, I believe in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I plan on keeping my Tenere until it's broke and I CAN'T fix it. I wouldn't worry about 40k miles, but if you want another bike, you want another bike; sooner or later....

Sounds like you want us to help justify a different bike, I say if you can afford it go ahead and get whatever you want. My Tenere has pretty close to the same miles as yours, I sure hope it lasts a lot longer !

I understand your craving(s). Been wanting something different but I won't get rid of the 2015 Super Tenere ES (yet).

This might help you make your decision https://goo.gl/maps/HL7PBENviM12 ride this route on you Super Tenere and while you are enjoying your Huge Smile... ask yourself if the new motorcycle will allow you to enjoy this ride. If you decide to ride this and want company... contact me.
For those that haven't ridden this route use Street View to look at Berryessa Knoxville Rd / Morgan Valley Rd and Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Rd. Beautiful and challenging ride. The Robert Lewis Stevenson State Park section (peg to peg) will make him want to get the new motorcycle.

Same delima, last year. 2012 with over 100K miles and no new Tenere in sight. There is absolutely NOTHING in the big trailie market I want to own except the 1200 Tenere so I sprung for a SC seat, full exhaust system and Cogents finest on the suspensions and viola... feels like a brand new bike. My hope is it will hold out until Yamaha does a real Gen III Tenere. As much as I want CC, not worth it for me to trade/sell a machine I finally have set up for a warmed over Gen II. Just get out there and ride it more.

Sounds like new bike fever. Nothing wrong with that. The bike will be fine for a LOT more miles. You will need to replace the CCT at or before the second valve adjustment/check at 52k. Other than that, it's fine.

If something different suits your needs now, go for it. I'm not riding like I used to either. Not as much vacation time, less disposable income and family issues that prevent me from taking more trips. Add getting older and my riding choices have changed a bit too. Still, the Super Ten does it all well. I actually bought a 150cc scooter for commuting and around town errands. Lite, fun, a little silly, but less gear, lower speeds and easy hop on and go. I've put 3k miles on it since I got it maybe 5 months ago. I've still probably put more miles on the Super Ten, but nothing like I used to.

Honda is making a retro in honor of the classic CB750Four called the CB1100. Beautiful machine. ;)

I've got new bike fever too. Am waiting for this coming winter to weigh the Gen3 Tenere against the Guzzi V85.

I dream about finding a nice shape R1150gs which has been dealer maintained with under 40K miles for around $5K. I see them on Craigslist occasionally. What the hell is wrong with me I wonder? I have an awesome bike.

In other words - I know the feeling Cal!

Thank you for all the messages. Great response to the lame subject of the original post.
I was worried a bit about the mileage but the truth is that I suffer from the Monkey Butt Syndrome. When a monkey has nothing to do and gets bored because of it, it begins scratching her behind until it bleeds!
