Hi everyone. Id like some hard panniers on my S10....but dont want to loose filtering ability. Also..I dont like the panniers that aren't snug to the side of the bike. The oem ones look good especially the way the one on the exhaust side is so snug fitting to the side of the bike.....but even thinner ones still would be good for me. I'll still use a top box and the panniers will only be for waterproofs/lock etc. Pics with replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Carabou can be very narrow. My 9" Jesse Safari are more narrow than my bars.

It's going to be tough to beat the OEM Yamaha width, given how compactly they mount the bags with respect to the bike, especially on the exhaust side. If you can get the overall width significantly narrower, I suspect the bags themselves will be very narrow.

BTW, I just measured and the Yamaha bags are 35" across. This compares to a handlebar width of 38" and a bodywork width (at the radiator height) of about 25".

9inch Jesse Safaris in black. They measure 35inches across. You can order an extra kit with them that allows you to remove the rear grab handles and get them in a little more, I did not want to remove mine. Top case is Shad SH45. You can slide the front to back several inches to increase balance for one up riding or to the rear for two up riding. Mine are furthest to the rear in photos.

Recently picked up a Holan Nomada 2 X 38L system from ADVMotorrad. Excellent quality, tuck in very tight and have tons of storage space. Have to get an exact measurement tomorrow, but IIRC they are right at 35-1/2".

They look good, got any pics direct on to the rear with the panniers on?

I put the Happy Trails racks on and I too wanted small hard Panniers. I also wanted to be able to use soft bags if desired. I mounted the Pelican 1430 cases on the HT racks and I am happy with that set up. They are small but I plan on a medium tail bag and a duffle bag to augment the 1430's. I also looked at the Givi's that are very narrow. Seemed like they would also do the trick. I could go to a larger Pelican if needed but my goal is to travel as light as possible. I always find I take far more than I need.

Those Holans are quite nice. The sets with the exhaust cutouts are the way to go.
