We just moved from Boston to Reno, and brought the bike in the enclosed trailer.

It looks like I misplaced the keys. No luck finding them.

Can a dealer typically get a new one? (2012) .Trying to call them now.

Thank you!

Have a dealer run the VIN number through Yamaha. If you are lucky, the dealer who sold it new completed the corporate registration for new units. This would include the key code. Not all dealers are thorough enough to do this. Plan B is take the bike to a good locksmith that should be able to cut a key by trial and error.

Yes, it takes more than just a V.I.N. My dealer is great, be he warned me no to lose the tag, or he couldn't replace my key(s). Trasbeck is right about finding a good locksmith.

Don`t the US bikes have inmovilizers? Mine has an inmovilizer and if I loose the red key is a nightmare to sort is out, there are ways of doing it! but you might loose the inmovilizer capability.

After temporarily loosing a set, I now keep two sets of spares. One in my primary riding jacket and one in the house. I did find the lost set which I had dropped under the air compressor during some maintenance. Since I had some different box locks, I did have to find a locksmith, just to match some of the keys.

All right I called the dealer and they can't do it, but they referred me to a local locksmith. I need to take the bike to them - $80.

Fingers crossed.

Just to be clear, the "tag" has the key code printed on it. You could write it in your owners manual, save it to your phone, tattoo it on....you get the idea...

This only pertains to Yamahas WITHOUT immobilizer feature...I have no idea what those folks do...

Years ago lost remote control for tv so bought a couple different aftermarket ones from Walmart but they really didn’t work very well so after looking in the Panasonic owners manual they had a number to call for help so I called them and got a brandnew remote mailed to my house for $8 ! About a week later I found the old Panasonic remote that had been lost for about a year.
