Preachin to the choir.
I find the complaints of the Tenere weight amongst this Big Pig club as kinda silly. +-50lbs is almost meaningless.

I don't know what the outfitting of the water GS and the Tenere are, but they are very close. It isn't 50 lbs.

True. My point was, if we were comparing 300lb bikes, +- a few pounds might be truly impacting.

MX and sport bikes have a hard time covering up weight gain.

But the Giant ADV bikes, for the most part, are approaching 600lbs! And that's without cargo!

So although I'm not suggesting weight doesn't matter, I AM suggesting a 590lb example might be every bit as capable as a 545lb example. And, it's entirely possible that a 590lb bike carry its weight better than a 545lb bike does. Or, a 580lb & 585lb set of bikes feel completely different weight wise.

Most importantly though, ALL of them are a beast to pick up off the ground. That's when their weight actually matters most. And there are no winners!

+1

I think people tend to get fixated on "marketing weights Vs real weights" and then carry on like they are comparing trials bikes. It's just BS purchase justification. It would be good if YAMAHA got the weight down without killing reliability, but they did at least spend effort getting the weight down in a COG sense, but in the end even the difference between an 800XC and an S10 is about 10%. (actually weighed weights with minimal farkles), which means that you go and camp for the day after picking up the S10 nine times while the XC you might have 1 more go at it before retiring to camp.
