My new RoadAttack 2 EVO rear tyre developed some cracks/tears around the tread pattern after around 1000 miles on my S10 and has been replaced with an identical tyre free of charge. Perhaps it was a one-off problem, perhaps not, but I suggest if you have this tyre you check yours. I will report back in 1000 miles on the condition of the replacement. Here's a picture of what it looks like:

Certainly would freak me - could be the start of a de-lamination. ???

I'm suprised that Pirelli didn't treat you better 'jimmy z' - shame on them.

I am always checking the tyres/tread blocks, ever since my Hayabusa days. Those things sure had some grunt & back in 1999 tyre technology hadn't really kept pace - they could fry a rear tyre in no time.

Squibb.cracks in my pirellies were way longer than frez.Varied from about 1 to 2 inches. My independent dealer sent pictures in to supplier they stated don't worry about it.Took them off and switched brands.Jim

Thought I would update. I didn't use the bike through the winter for a change. I've now put over 1000 miles on the replacement and the problem hasn't reoccurred.

Personally I wont be getting them again, not because of the tears that were fixed by a replacement, but because I am not happy with the wet weather grip. The rear spins up far too easily compared to other tyres I've used in the wet. So whilst Continental may state that the wet weather performance has improved with this version, I'm not convinced. Still great performance in the dry though.

DRY? I don't remember much dry action in the UK over the last 6 months.

Seriously though, good to know for us riders living in a damp climate. Never tried CRAs, but I know a guy who likes them on his KTM990 & he does a weekly all-weather 150 mile commute. Maybe the KTMs lighter weight helps?

I'm still on OE, but will probably try A40s next time.

Those cracks wouldn't bother me much. Was the tire ever run low on air? I have seen that on other brands. I would really worry it if started to throw chunks...

I have found the Metzeler Tourance Next to be excellent in the rain.

Well I got 12k miles out of them (90% highway), but there were small cracks appearing around the tread both front and rear. Never ran them low on pressure. The front cupped badly, the rear squared off. Grip in the dry great, grip in the wet not so much. I wouldn't use them again. Roadsmart 3s on now.
