I've lived in Az for a quite a while (Native), raced offroad for quite a while (20+yrs) and spent many days exploring our back country on everything from MX to heavy weight ADV bikes....and have been known to take a K1200LT in places it shouldn't have gone lol. What questions do you have?
I can tell you a couple things from taking out of state riders out into the back country. Desert riding is much harder than they ever expected. Sand riding (especially sugar sand) is whole nother topic and please no whinning/crying after receiving your first AZ tattoo.
As for the route itself....it offers a little bit of everything.....desert, sand, rocks, more rocks and yes even more rocks, grassy meadows, pine covered trails, clay hard pack, marble hardpack, rocks, more rocks, jumping cactus and finally rocks. There are some sections that most would consider difficult but offroad experience is most important rather than what bike. As a whole a sub 400lb bike would offer the most 'fun' but overweight ADV bikes will have fun as well. Again....rider skill is directly proportional to what is fun and what can be frustration. The route is remote but not that remote for AZ standards i.e. gas is available nearly every day ride as well as convenient store/basic groceries. No need to carry multi days worth of food. Extra water is mandatory. Let me repeat that...always carry more water than you could ever expect to use/go through.
