I won a new iPad at a convention recently and downloaded some free games. One of them was a motorcycle game that awarded points for narrowly missing traffic. Of course, eventually you get too close and SPLAT! The crash is graphic, complete with broken bones and blood. After the first crash, I had to shut it down. I lay awake at night enough as it is. This stupid game promotes aggressive riding and close calls.

A great reminder to ride like every cager is trying to kill us!
And sometimes, if we thread the needle too close, we can be our own worst enemy...

I appreciate you having the humility to retell the story so the rest of us reading can run through similar situations in our head and can be aware of what not to do in order to avoid those situations!

Here's a wakeup call for TravellingStrom, an Aussie currently touring Albania...

careful, bad language! ::025:: (unusual for an aussie eh?)
Nice step off! He must have washed off a fair bit of speed before hitting the truck.

I'm pretty sure I would have taken to the gravel on the right, but no criticism - I wasn't there.

Yeah hard to say - but it was raining and the road shoulder could have been pretty muddy/slippery, it which case it's a choice of maybe going down fast on the shoulder, or hitting the car slow on the road...

I'm pretty sure he was into full brake app. maybe even a rear skid on the wet. No chance to change direction then. We can do the 20/20 hindsight thing and say he shoulda scrubbed off more speed with all the activity on and around the road. Something was bound to happen, and it did. He did good all things considered.
