thanks FredB, i booked something this week at Liars Cove resort. They use 5th wheel rv's for their rooms. I got it for $50 a night on July 5th, right on the water. You will have to let us know if you will be around to grab a bite to eat.

I'll check our plans. Concunully will be a fun place to stop over. It is weird seeing deer laying in the front yard of the homes just off main street. Be sure to have fun on your trip!

Limey, if that link doesn't come up, try www.wbdr.com There is a Back country Discovery Route now for OR, UT, WA and more to come each year with a full set of GPS tracks available for people to enjoy on their own. You can search Google for each of these and there are video trailers on Youtube as well.
OOps. Lok like i didn't read before I posted!!!! Oh well,!!!

I was going to take 2, but I could just as easily head over 90. I was heading out alone since I didn't think I would get too far before hitting snow. Was going to try from Cashmere both North (Route-4) and South(Route-3) from Cashmere, then maybe head to Chelan and go South to see Route-4 from the other side.

Any report?

I was in Chelan this weekend. Didn't look like you would have made it far as there was still what seemed to be significant snow up high on the northern facing slopes.

Cashmere side (what I could see of it) seemed much drier. Did you get shut down before making it to Ardenvoir?

I didn't make it much past Monroe ::)

Had a terrible day which included not enough sleep and forgetting my wallet at home, so decided it best to just not go. I went to Spada Lake, that's as far as I made it before I turned back. ::010::

Was hanging at a friends house in Chelan this weekend. I figured I'd try to do part of the discovery route from 25 mile state park to Ardenvoir and/or Leavenworth depending on the snow. No such luck. I was turned back near Stormy Mtn. Just shy of 6,000 feet I think. It felt so close to getting off the northern slopes and making it down into Ardenvoir. Probably needs another week or so of warm weather.

Only recorded the track on the way down so it shows the start point up on the mountain.

Section 1 is still snowed in. It will most likely be mid July before it opens. The snow is only 12 miles south of Packwood. abd about the same north of Trout Lake.

Does anybody know if the part of this road from Carson, WA to Hwy 12 is okay for a newbie. I have no real experience off road but this bike has me itching.
I've looked at it in Google Earth and it looks fantastic! Thanks to the help.
Cheers,
Janet

Oregon S10, That's section 1, and as of 13 June there were about 20-30 miles of that section( around Mt Adams) that were still snowed in.
It should be gone soon but who knows….. Late July or Aug ::)
It's supposed to be the easiest section on the route. We were on Fr 21 earlier in the month up to the snow line and it's a great road. FR 23 is paved most of the way from the Cispus to Trout Lake so if you find a few pieces that are beyond your skill level, you can just get on FR 23. Section 2 is supposed to be the hardest around Bethel Ridge. Having the right tires really makes the difference IMO.
Good luck and have fun!

Janet, As NW Cajun mentioned, the first section out of Carson is closed. So is the section FR23 which heads up to MT St. Helens. We are cancelling that section which we were supposed to ride down to Carson on Sunday July 1, then up to Packwood on Monday July 2nd. We are starting the WABDR in Packwood, WA then heading north to do the rest of the ride to the Canadian Border. I am riding with a few novices for this trip, as it should be fun and challenging!!!

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm probably going to have to find someone to ride that with me. I have the only bike meant to go off road. Did a gravel road up above Carlton, OR and got a
taste of how much easier this bike is to ride on gravel, potholed roads. I used to be very tense on anything but pavement. This bike makes me look any thing in the dirt! I'll start out
exploring. Thanks again and ride safe!

Janet, Not only here, but ADVRider, and even STromTrooper.com has riders always looking to ride weekend here in WA and OR. I hope this helps some. Other than this trip, I am limited now often for rides as my 1 1/2 yr old and wife are taking up some of that time. Enjoy your rides and be safe!!!

Well as of June 30, there is definitively still snow up there. I did not try the WaBCDR but tried to cut over from 224 to 26 on a nice track I had programmed into my gps. (N Fork Road, Abbott Rd, alll the way to Tomothy Lake) About 25 miles in of the 40 mile trip I hit snow @ 6000ft. A LOT of snow by the way. Probably going to take a few weeks to melt away. Was great fun despite the fact I had to turn around!

I am definitively up to do the WaBCDR if there is still some interest. I might be slower than others - just started the off road thing on a heavier bike...

Just did a week long, 1300 mile trip from the Puget sound area to Joseph, Oregon. Went over Chinook pass through Eastern Washington and up and down through Hell's Canyon and back. Did 300 miles of unimproved and dirt track over 3 or 4 days. From Lewiston, Idaho to Enterprise, Oregon there is a paved road called the Rattlesnake that is truly a peg scrapping rush. That's a beautiful piece of road on a Tenere. What a great trip and it showed me what a marvelous bike we all have. I won't hesitate to go anywhere on this bike in the future. Planning on a round trip to South America in 2014. Looking forward to doing the WaBCDR in another month. Enjoy the ride, Barry
