I agree, we need more help on this one. I know I will be using Wasps adjustable screen mount as I am sure many others here will too. I would think the adjustable mount would make a huge difference in conjunction with the deflectors.

Maybe Wasp will chime in here with the details on the deflectors with his mount? Greg, are the deflectors worthwhile with your mount?

I bought the CalSci screen and will see how much breeze gets through without the deflectors before I get some. Since I live half way down the Florida east coast, I usually need the breeze to cool me off. It pretty much never gets too cold to ride here, but it does sometimes get nearly too hot.

Look like crap to me ... but the convenient holes in the plastics will be beneficial.

I have the wind deflectors to go with my OEM tall screen, but honestly could not tell if they made much difference when I installed them. Next season I need to do some more tests with and without. I would say they are not a "must have" for sure, but I like the look.

Swagger, you sure don't mince words! +1! I thought they looked like a waste of money.

I have seen such things on Gold Wings, though. ::)

I have them on my Honda NT700V and they do well on that bike....though I didn't pay much for them.

Like any accessories the looks are a personal preference thing.. I like the look.
It's hard to qualify how much they alter the airflow unless I do a back to back which I haven't done yet but may do one day soon.
One interesting observation while enjoying a ride in the rain the other day. The forward face of the winglets collect a lot of mist/spray, and as I was riding I could see the collected water (and direct rain) leaving a witness trail along the front face and dispersing as you would imagine seeing smoke in a wind test tunnel. It was very cool (almost hypnotizing) to watch, and confirmed the aerodynamic value of the part.

On the topic of warm weather riding with the winglets installed. I dunno,, but I can say that we have had a little more than warm weather lately, as in farken hot.. I normally try to avoid riding when it's much over 35c but we have been doing a lot of remote product testing and development that requires I have the bike on hand so hot riding has been the norm lately.
I can honestly say that I dont believe it would have been much more bareable without the winglets.
If they disappeared tomorrow, I would have a new set on order straight away, but like I said, that's just me.

Greg.

Thanks Greg for the info on how the deflectors work in conjunction with your mount. I know your mount will be on my bike. The deflectors might make the cut too.

Greg,

Does your bike still have the CalSci windscreen? If so, I am curious to see if much rain got through the vent?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul.
No, the Calsci screen is no longer required and has been, ehmm, archived.. ::)

Greg
Did you also retire the Yamaha side deflectors, or do they still serve a purpose?

DD.
As you can see, the deflectors have remained on the bike along with the MotorradWorks screen adjuster kit, and yes, I believe they do have an impact on better air control.

I've been running a CalSci w/s for three years on my Concours 14 and the amount of rain entering the vent on the shield is very little. It seems to change the direction of the airflow so that it doesn't create the vaccuum effect around the sides of the shield that pushes you forward while riding at speed.

Good to know. That is the only OEM accessory I'm planning to buy. Definitely anticipate ordering one of your screen adjusters. I use something similar on my Strom and I'm fully sold on the value. Thanks.
