Bump from the dead, found this while searching and it seemed too good to die.

I do wish I had found it 5 minutes sooner though - then I could have added the three bumpers to my already free shipping Bike Bandit order.

If this makes the seat flat, then it's a fine idea and a very clean mod.

I used the same set up give here and it is magic. I don't feel like I am falling forward.

I did this mode sometime ago and it help greatly to keep my nuggets from slamming the tank under hard braking. One day just for the hell of it I removed the plastic gadget that you flip to put your seat in high or low position. Because of my short inseam the gadget has never returned. I carried it in my pannier for some time in case I was riding the super slab and wanted a different ride position. I finally threw it in the box of stock parts for the next owner.

The latch is a bit harder to do, but it has always been a hassle. Seat moves a tiny bit, but no wear signs so far. I standup ride off road quite a bit and have yet to lose my bunn cushion.

I did let a long legged friend test ride the blu beast and his only complaint was he felt like he was going to kiss his knees. That is about the time I asked for my bike back.

Give it a try. I should mention I have the stock seat with the $100 spencer foam mod. I also recommend that if your a cheap bastard like me trying to keep a fleet of 8 bikes rolling.

Cheers

This little part is expensive. The best price I found for 6 of them plus shipping is $23.45 at Boats.net, not even an MC parts dealer. You can order similar looking parts on Ebay, but it's a risk. Hint: the GM trunk lid bumpers won't work - too small. You can also order this exact part on Ebay, but it costs more.

Thanks to Tony (the OP) for the write up with pics. Just did this obvious mod and it made a world of difference in comfort.

::003:: Cheers to the thread originators! I did the five bumper version with the 5th in the seat - if you're careful and go at it from the side you can leave a fair amount of the center support... It fits well once latched and provides a noticeable drop on the back side. More obvious after some miles - maybe placebo or maybe real - but I feel like I have a little firmer stance at stops and don't feel as much forward slide. Either way, it was worth it and a keeper... It's not a brand new seat, but a fair and cheap improvement on what I was surprised to say is a reasonably comfortable stock seat. Only a bonus it can be easily undone - but I am not planning on it.

For those of you that have done this mod how did it turn out regarding the seat positon/comfort of the seat?

I did this exact mod very early on, and it's supremely comfortable. As I recall, I did it before I did my SS1000, and after 17.5 hours in the saddle, I could have gone a few hundred more!

I've used my bike with this mod for 3 european tours now.

To give an indication of how comfortable the seat is, my touring mates have now nicknamed me "the terminator" because I only ever stop for fuel.

I did this mod today. Although I have not tried the seat, I will comment on the instructions provided here. They were excellent. ::022::
This summer, I have many 12 hour days planned so I hope this does the trick.

I didn't drill a hole in the frame stay bracket or seat tang to attach the extra bumper to take up the slack. Instead I took a razor blade and carefully cut the tit off a bumper and attached it to the frame stay bracket with 3M double siding molding tape. That tape is incredibly strong and appeared to attach to the rubber securely so cannot imagine it ever falling off.

I`ve done the mod and it`s great, didn`t bother with rubber under the tang, when I sit on the seat it tilts back, when I get off the seat sits snug against the tank ::012::
