Okay, I'll admit to the fact that I live "in the sticks". Hell, we're still questioning the need for electricity!

I needed to top off my tank to make it home today from the Seattle area. My tank was 1/3 full. As the fuel level got within a few inches of the top that damned spill-proof nozzle shut off & I couldn't get another drop out of it. I only rode for about 20 miles when the fuel indicator showed one bar down. It pissed me off. I stopped 70 miles later in Leavenworth & topped the black beast off with a regular nozzle.

Some of you riders must know how to deal with these politically correct frul nozzels!

Well, one; you physically pull the boot back and work the trigger very carefully, or
two; you hit up Aerostitch Rider Wearhouse web site and type in E-Z Fill Nozzle Key, part # 2818... or create your own.

I'm heading to the States in a few months so thanks for that info Don.

Last time I rode was on a timed coast to coast to coast run and those pumps really ate into the overall average time ::010::

I see the Aerostitch one is a bit like a 2 pronged fork, and I saw another one like a disc with a large slot cut-out to do the same thing.

I'll be carrying one of those next time ::008::

I don't get the concern. Take the nozzle, shove it in the tank. The metal tip of the nozzle fits in the large hole of the deflector. The boot rests on the trim piece. Hold the handle until it shuts off. Done. Tank filled right to the bottom of the deflector.

Just avoid buying gas in major metro areas, and you won't find those troublesome things.

Unless you're in Kalifornia, they're everywhere.

Hmm, here, if you push them in enough to trigger the pump, you're about an inch below the deflector. As the OP found out.

I'm a bit obsessed with fuel and fuelling.

I've punched 3 holes in the filler neck for faster filling and to reach the upper part of the tank and I've just fitted a custom 5 gallon auxiliary tank.

Pulling the boot back works for full top off. If you bump into the kind of pump that clicks off and then becomes hard to modulate, you can top off completely by submerging the tip of the nozzle in the fuel, pulling the handle halfway, then pulling the nozzle out of the fuel - somehow it makes it modulate again. :)

The point of my post, & some of you understood, is that I tried everything to get the pump to dispense more fuel. I pulled it out further, lifted the rubber boot, nothing worked.

I worked at a full service gas station as a kid in Montana & filled thousands of tanks & have owned my own FBO (flying service) & pumped tens of thousands of gallons of avgas & jet fuel, so I think it's fair to say I usually know how to operate a pump! ::002::

Maybe this particular nozzle was extra sensative.

I'll check into the aerostich part... thanks for the tip!

In my experience, how far/hard you have to pull the boot up to "fool" the pump into thinking it is inserted into a car tank varies dramatically from pump to pump. I've had a few where I literally had to use all the strength in one hand/arm to keep the interlock engaged.

You can thank the damn liberals and their precious EPA for this bullshit. The nozzles here in GA (Dixie) just shut off when the tip touches fuel so I have to stick it in level w/ the little silver flange until gas splashes up to hit it then keep creeping it up till its maxed to the freakin top. I beg of you Californians and North Easterners; quit with you liberal politicians! Vote em out!
There's nothing more irritating than the run-amuck EPA that's charter is fulfilling it's own prophecy. Gotta go, I need to dump about 5 gallons of used oil in a deep hole I dug in the back of my property.

We can thank former pres Richard M. Nixon for creating the EPA in 1970......I don't think anyone envisioned ending up with a organization such as we have today.

I believe that is in all states. It is a safety feature to shut off the pump when the pump is held on by a device. Keeps the gas from continuing to pump and cause a big boom..
I'm not sure if the EPA had anything to do with that...

No, I was referring to the vapor catcher you know, the one that never really collected vapor properly. I know you aren't sticking up for the EPA! LOL!!!
