Hi,
Well National Cycle just released their V-Stream wind shield for the Tenere. I was quite happy with their shield on my Concours 14 especially after coming off a GL1800 with its barn door shield. I’ve ordered mine, though disappointed that you are limited to screen color by screen size. The Sport is dark tint, the Sport Tour is light tint and the Tour is clear. I did order the Sport Tour in light tint. Since I have the faster black S10 the tint should go nicely with the bike though I am concerned it might clash with my clear OEM Wind Delfectors! :D
Later,
Norm

Sounds good. I'm looking for a new shield and hope your review is good.

Cool, I've had my eye on this one since Fred reported on it from the dealer expo.

I have the Yamaha touring screen and it has the same National Cycle logo in lower left corner (have not checked the original screen). Looking forward to review on this screen and hoping it's better than touring screen.

I just ordered the mid-sized touring screen and will try to post my impressions here. I was OK with the stock screen until I got an AFX FX-39 DS helmet. While my Shoei (TR-Z) and HJC (IS-16) full face helmets are fine, the FX-39 is buzy and loud in the Super Tenere cockpit. If I hide behind the screen or stand in clean air, it's fine. Since I plan to use intercoms with my wife as passenger (in the full face helmets), a quieter cockpit couldn't hurt.

I thought I posted this earlier, but must not have hit post. lol.
I ordered a mid size with the light tint this morning and it was supposed to ship today, but no tracking yet. I hope to get it before the 11th..

I'll give a report when I return from the trip. I'm using the stock screen now and it is not too bad, but would like more shoulder protection and a little less noise. Hope this works out.. LOL

I've had my medium V-Stream on for a couple of weeks. I keep going back and forth between the low and high mounting positions. It would be easy if you didn't have to replace the rubber nut-certs. I'm going to get a second set.

All in all, the difference between stock is not as much as I had hoped. Maybe the Madstad bracket is better first money spent on windshield improvement. I notice a little flex/vibration along the top of the screen, more pronounced in the high position. To be fair, the stock screen does the same thing but with a little less amplitude do to its size and more re-enforced shape.

Speaking of shape, while I was mainly going for less noise, I was also concerned about the reflection at night from the signal lights and gauge pod. The V-Stream does not have the halo effect of the stocker but there is a spot of reflection next to the top of each mounting bracket. I keep meaning to put a piece of black tape there to see if that dampens the reflection.

Handling - I've been riding in windy weather lately. This screen is bigger than stock and simply catches more air. The effect is like pulling up on one end of the handle bars depending on the side the wind hits from. Fortunately this bike is exceptionally stable and I've yet to be upset by up to 40 mph gusts, but less so with the stock (smaller) screen. I also feel a little more "frontal push", like a higher coefficient of drag. It's subtle and you get used to it, but I'd claim it's noticeable the first time or two with the bigger screen.

Quality and appearance - It fits and looks well made. Visibility through the screen is excellent though I prefer looking over screens, which the size of this allows. I'm 6 feet tall with a 34 inch inseam, seat modded for anti-tilt and in the low position.

Overall - I was going for noise reduction, mostly to be able to talk to my pillion over intercoms, buffeting was not an issue. At 70 mph, intercoms are pretty much useless, under 50 they're audible. I'm using Sena SMH5, one trip so far, total lifetime intercom experience. I wear 34 db noise reduction earplugs - always. I haven't done the intercom comparison between this and the stock screen (only one trip so far), but general riding indicates a few less db with the V-Stream, and even less noise in the high position. I can see where the bigger touring screen would be better in this regard, but I don't want a screen that big. I will keep this screen and the stock one too. Maybe someday get a Madstad bracket or try the cheap forward-tilt spacer mod.

I noticed some of the same with my shield. I have the Madstad bracket so am able to tilt and raise the screen. The noise is better for me with this shield, but still not perfect. I liked the shield at 1/2 up and 1/2 back. Something I did notice, is when I put my hand on my helmet, the noise mostly went away.
So the choice of helmets could be contributing to the problem. Also with the top vents open, the noise was worse.

Also noticed that side and quarter winds did not buffet like stock. One of the things I really like is the coating on the shield. I have yet to scratch it and put about 1500 miles with some of it in the rain. With some H2o2 the bugs came off very easy and then I used Plexus to shine up.

For me it is a keeper, but still not the perfect shield.

If you are planning on using the Madstad bracket, it will not mount in the lower OEM bracket holes. You will have to use the upper ones.
The bracket will not stay upright at around 90mph. I have also be riding in high winds and with a head wind of around 20 and gusts higher and speeds of around 70 the shield will fold down. I have cranked the knobs hard and it will still do it. Maybe other rubber washers will help it.

Seems to me I saw another (beefier) option to the Madstad here... Does anyone recall the name? I'm thinking of upgrading my screen as well.

Pics of Sport-Tour (medium) Vstream on a MadStad bracket for those who are curious. Madstad is mounted in upper holes & the screen is adjusted all the way down/ back. Big improvement over stock screen. ::008::

I had been using the stock windshield + Madstad mount and, even though it works pretty well, I wanted a bit more protection for winter riding. I tried the Sport Tour VStream and could never find a position that was more effective that the stock + Madstad. I tried it with and without the Madstad too. I then tried the Yamaha Tall Screen. Much worse than stock. You'd have to be pretty short for it to work. I'm 6'2" w/ 32" inseam. I have a VStream Touring on order. If that works, I'll keep the stock screen for summer use. I have a large VStream on an FJR and am quite happy with it after shimming the bottom of the screen to tip it back a bit.
