Where is the air box. I thought the gas tank was under water so how did the keep running?

That was more impressive than I expected ::008::
The Russians are seriously crazy when it comes to off-roading. I think they're not doing it for fun, they just have to get somewhere.

They ran the air intake into the trunk then seal that up to cross rivers.

Great video, I want one...then I could take the dog with me .

Interesting to note none of them was wearing anything fancy to ride..wondering if Klim makes hip waders?

When they first came to North America a couple of my friends used to do a BMW conversion as the motors were not great in the early days.

I think they are like Russian trucks. Designed to work in Siberia at -40C and be fixed by a hammer wielding and Vodka swilling conscript. :)

Dogs LOVE sidecars. One of our Baltimore guys has a Ural to take his dog along and there are a bunch doing the annual Ride To The Wall, here in DC.

Gotta get the Doggles, so your dog can be cool looking.
:D

Good entertaining vid. Thanks.

We had to discipline ourselves so as not to lapse into the string of related youtube nonsense though.

Are they still actually Russian built, or is this (un)subtle marketing. I had, in the back of my mind, that they had sold the rights, the lines, everything on to the Chinese years back, having stolen the whole set-up from BMW in 1945. Perhaps I am out of date - can you enlighten us eemsreno?

I always liked the look of the Wehrmacht original 2-wheel drive outfit - side valve 750cc I think. Having spoken with a few Ural owners over the years, it seems like quality control was always rather lacking, so they had to be pretty handy with the spanners when touring - seemed to enjoy the challenge though.

I'm sure on expert on Urals but I did ask the dealer if they are built in Russia and he said yes.

Very cool video. I now what the phrase "ride it like you stole it" really means. ::26::

You are right - attached is a Wiki history, which as ever may not be entirely 100% accurate. Apparently it was the original R72 design/lines that were sold to the Chinese, not the core manufacturing structure.

I thought Russian products like this were caught under the trade embargo incidentally. Obviously I am wrong, or there is a large loophole being exploited. Maybe 3rd party country trans-shipment.

Embargo are typically targeted at industries or companies. I haven't heard that Ural is part of one.

This thread is funny because a week ago I went looking at Urals.
They were built better than I thought they would be.
Go for it. I absolutely love my Ural. Other than a few very minor assembly hiccups, I have had zero issues with mine. These things are built to survive.

I'm looking harder at a New 2017 Tenere.
I really don't need it but it looks nice.

It's getting there anyway.
It still should last a couple hundred thousand more. :)

I did have to replace the stock rear shock after it started leaking last spring.
You would be proud of me. :D
