OK - not positive where to post this, but if anyone has RECENTLY updated their Zumo maps, I could use some advice. As I recall, the last time I updated several years ago, I fought a bit with the space requirements on the unit (~1GB), but eventually, it fit. This time around, Garmin's site says that 13GB disc space is required for the NA maps. The Zumo has an SD card slot, so I can add one, but when updating, will the internal and SD space simply be used as needed, or do I manually need to route to those areas? I've read up on the Zumo forum and Advrider, but there are no recent posts that seem to clearly explain how to do this. Any advice is appreciated.

Talked with Garmin a few years ago and they said 4GB (for maps) was the best and anything larger was not needed. So I installed a Kingston SD HC 4GB 4. Last week I updated the 550 and it took a longtime but nothing like the time it took for the 660.

Did you just update the Zumo with the card in place, or did you need to mess with the maps or do anything special to make it work?

With the card in place.

You are going to want something to multitask with unless you have a screaming fast connection to the internet.

Working on the download now and getting the not enough space on the device warning even with an 8gb SD card installed. I need all of the NA maps. I can choose under the advanced options to install to computer and choose the "drive" that is the SD card. Will that work?

Thanks for the help. I read up on all of those before I asked my question here. Either the answer isn't there or I'm just plain doing something wrong. I can't seem to find the option to add more than one region at a time to the card. One of those posts talked about simply clicking and dragging to select multiple regions, but it won't work for me. The East section will cover 90% of my needs, but I need to figure this out.

- check to see if the card is not locked.

- is the card formatted?

- try to update the card in your computer. then see if Garmin can see the card in the 550.

The faster the internet connection you can get the better.

No joy. Card is unlocked and properly formatted. Everything downloaded to the PC just fine, although it took about 2 hours.

I can "see" the card whether its in the PC's card reader or in the Zumo's SD slot. For whatever reason, neither Garmin Express or Map Updater seem to recognize the card or allow me to manually choose to save the entire NA mapset to it. Just stops me at the not enough space on the device warning and asks which region I want to install.

Guess I'll try to call Garmin this afternoon. I've got to be missing something simple.

Still fighting this silly update. One of Garmin's software guys remote accessed my PC and corrected a registry error to the maps could be saved to the machine vs trying to go to the zumo, but after a long download of the entire NA mapset, it won't install to the designated C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps folder (assuming that is the correct spot for Windows 7). I don't get it. Tonight will be call #5 to tech support.

I struggled a bit with my last two 550 updates as well. Wound up just loading the Eastern NA map base which serves me fine, but the Garmin protocol for what should be routinely simple functions is anything but simple. It's a shame Apple doesn't make GPS units.

Send me a PM with ur email... I have a file that tells you how to basically hack the Zumo 550 so it will ready from the card....U have to use a different program, call " Map Installer" which is different from the updater program...Also you have to remove a image file from the GPS memory and replace it on the Card so it will think the card is the Zumo....I can probably walk you though it since I just did mine a week ago....Let me know if you need help
