This.

I have enjoyed every bike I owned for whatever reason.

Per the Article, it is to be expected as Harley has been losing quit a bit of late. I would Imagine other companies are accelerating their sales as well.

Wonder how BMW is doing not very good I bet with all the recalls they been getting lately
BMW Motorrad Press Release:

With 11,088 units delivered, BMW Motorrad has achieved record sales for the ninth time in a row as per September 2015. As compared to the already strong equivalent month in the previous year (9,991 units), 11.0 % more motorcycles and maxi scooters were supplied to customers. As of September, worldwide sales likewise reached a new all-time high of 112,411 units sold, and an increase of 12.2 (prev. yr.: 100,217 units). For the first time the 100,000 mark was exceeded already in August.

The BMW R Series with the characteristic flat-twin engine contributed about 54.0 % to sales with 60,557 units sold. Apart from the traditional high-volume models R 1200 GS, GS Adventure and RT, the BMW R nineT, now already a cult bike, has firmly established itself in 4th place in the BMW Motorrad ranking. Sales figures for the BMW R 1200 RS, the new touring sports bike by BMW Motorrad, are also developing positively.

The sports-oriented BMW S Series with the S 1000 RR Supersports Bike, the S 1000 R Power Roadster and the new S 1000 XR Adventure Bike, have developed into a further key pillar in the BMW Motorrad model range.

WOW all that tells me is a lot of people like throwing their money away.
Have you not seen how many low mileage ADV bikes go on sale that are fully farkled? I think people spend more time looking and buying farkles than riding their dang bikes.

Big dreams.

I would be willing to bet that BMW like Harley averages more miles in their bikes than metric bikes.

yea I think the majority of ADV'ers (people who think they are) consist of overpaying for products and riding to applebee's for a beer. Weak, real weak. Sure a BMW is nice to look at but what an over priced no supported piece of equipment you have. They when you ask then where all they ride.....crickets. To me it is like maybe 10 to 20 percent of people that actually go out and ride, the more riders I engage who have done big rides are NOT BMW riders.

In general I agree with you(how about that, mark you calendar! :p).

Gold Wing owners seem to pile on the miles to. Not my cup of tea but an amazingly comfy bike for both rider and pillion, plus it handles great for such a large barge.

Hmmm, the Harley riders I know around here seem to average 4-5000 miles a year max. They're always amazed at my 150,000 mile ST1300.

BMW says the average owner puts 8,200 miles per year on their bike, while Japanese bikes average just over 6,000 miles per year.

Seems logical. As a single company BMW has a heavier concentration on bigger go places bikes. Generically the Japanese brands cover every kind of bike made, and certainly sell more in the sport bike category. I'm surprised the gap is not bigger. That 6K average for an Asian bike rider seems high. Could it be we higher mileage Adventure bike riders are bringing up the averages some? I didn't think there were enough of us to do that.

People turning over their low mileage Adventure bikes is a great thing. Anything that keep activity churning in the Adventure market means the bikes I like to ride will continue to get attention from the manufactures. All good.

This year I've done: 13K miles on my GSA, 5k miles on my R1200R, 4K miles on my F800GT, and 2K miles on my Vespa 300. The years not over yet and here in SW Florida it's prime riding season!
Luv'n the low fuel prices, and retirement!!! ::012::
I don't do Starbucks, too busy riding! ::001::

That also relates to most Jap bike owners probably own several bikes. Harley and BMW can only afford one to farkle and shine!!

I average 30k a year, but it is spread over 5 bikes.
