Recent success in pairing an old Sena SMH-10 with a J&M unit. Long frustrated trying to connect different brands. Sena tech support was very good in providing great videos to explain the nuances.

"To do a Universal Intercom Pairing, please try to watch the video suggested below for your reference:

To do a Universal Pairing for the SMH10, please follow the steps below:

1. Turn on the SMH10 and a non-Sena Bluetooth headset which you want to pair with.
2. Press and hold the Jog Dial on the SMH10 for 8 seconds until the blue LED flashes rapidly. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Universal intercom pairing”.
3. Perform the operation required for handsfree pairing on the nonSena Bluetooth headset (refer to the users’ manual of the headsets you want to use). The SMH10 will automatically perform pairing with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets in pairing mode."

Worked like a champ. The key is universal pairing uses Bluetooth not the RF between bands. Range is not great but better than buying new coms. Just thought I would share here...

Thanks for the posting. I've tried multiple different methods that I found on line to try and pair an SMH-10 to a Cardo unit, with no success.

I've had my SMH-10 units since 2013. I even replaced the battery in one of them in November to keep them going. And there are problems with using the Sena Device Manager with Windows 11; apparently it's a digital signature issue. There's a workaround, but it's a pain. I finally decided it was time to upgrade, and ended up getting a set of Freecom 4x's.

I'll download these videos off Youtube and hang onto them in case I need to un-retire the old Sena units...

I did have problems trying to upgrade the firmware with Windows 11, Tech support was willing to take me through the process, but like you said it was more involved than what I wanted to go through. It turns out the universal pairing mode was there already. I had to press the jog dial for 8 seconds. Intercom pairing was 5 seconds. Three seconds longer was the key. The last couple days coms have been working great.

Pairing my 20S sets was always an adventure. I splurged and upgraded to the new Cardo Edge. Better speakers and I love the magnetic mount. I just get it near the holder and it pulls it into the mount and out of my hand. Easily pairs with other Cardo products and for a sena I pull up the app and tap a configuration and it's done.
