Had mine on, now it is at the powder coaters.. The ALTriders is a good guard.. Be careful when you install. You will need a long t50, otherwise the socket will catch the guard and leave marks..

That went on mine the first night. I had the same issue with the short T50.

Yep, the ALT guards on both sides helps take away a little more silver from the Raven bike and adds more black to it!!! Yeah!!!!

Yes - you need a single T50 bit to put into a small socket to get though the upper hole. ...and the nut on the back is a bear to break loose without leverage - may need a bar to go over the wrench etc. I used a large adjustable wrench to make the 14mm long enough to break it loose. But some thread locker too.

When returning from my trip to Colorado I was about two hours from home and stopped for lunch at a place I usually eat on I-81. Stopped and then just fell over. Two guys ran over and helped pick up my bike. My left shoulder was "killing" me. It was separated! Went in and had a bite to eat. Came out, had to use my right hand to put my left hand on the bars so I could shift and drive....home. I kept thinking "how the hell" did this happen. I figured my foot slipped on gravel?? It was a long painful ride home. Thank God for cruise control.
Anyway, a few months later I was looking at my AltRider magazine and noticed the guard option. Then it dawned on me...my pant leg had gotten caught on the stock one and I just couldn't get my foot down, in time, hence I fell over. I then did some searching, on this site, to find that I was not the only one who fell. One of the members broke his foot/leg due to this problem.
I, too, strongly suggest you replace the stock shaft guard with one from AltRider. For the sixty dollars or so it is NOT worth taking the risk of this happening. It was a long three months of recovery for my separated shoulder. And now every time it gets ready to rain I get a painful reminder of the day I just fell over!!

Or you could use the KLR method and do it for almost nothing.

I was going to ask if that was a picture of your bike or mine, then saw the bent shift rod and second tie-wrap. It's your old bike right after the deer strike.

My story is a lot like Mr. Pete's. Nearly 4 years ago I was doing an 1100 mile day to my sister's in Florida, pulled up to a gas pump, and just fell over. No injuries and I felt like I couldn't put my foot down, but thought it must've been because I was road tired. Till we started seeing others do the same. Haven't had a problem since putting the tie-wrap on.

I had a problem not with the universal guard but with the shift lever junction. This I remedied by adding a home manufactured guard. The metal I used on the first guard was controversial as to possibly being a safety concern so I fabricated a second guard out of 1/8 inch aluminum. I rounded and polished all the edges and have never had a snag issue since.

Tim -

I've occasionally caught the bottom of both Draggin Jeans and regular jeans there. My bike may be a plagiarized version of yours soon.

Yes, finally figured out how that shifting rod got bent. Never noticed all the hair on it until I watched the travel video on the full screen TV. Only then did I understand the $%# deer made a direct strike on the shifting rod.

As far as the two tie-wraps...DM always accuses me of overthinking things. Guess this was just another example of that. I mean...I have no idea what she's talking about.

Nice Job! It will do the trick. I have suggested, strongly, to everyone on this site to do replace the stock part. It is NOT worth taking a chance for a few dollars. I, obviously, would have gladly spent the sixty or so dollars NOT to have fell over and separated my shoulder.

Again...nice job.
