UK Bikes - which battery do you have ?

I have been away for the winter and removed my battery before I left. On preparing to refit it I have noticed that it does not appear to be a sealed battery (YuasaYB5L-B).

This concerns me as the battery is located on its side. I am not keen on having battery acid leak and damage my bike.

Could someone please check their bike and let me know whether this is a common feature of a UK bike ?

Thanks

When selecting a shorai, make sure that you do some research as there are two types in all the different sizes (higher power output).

Thanks for the tip. Do you have that information? Wanna share?

Well, they don't have a battery spec'd for the yamaha super tenere in my catalog, but the yamaha star twins call for a 405 cca battery per shorai, and the "duration" battery that is an upgrade is 540cca. If someone gives me dimensions, I can look it up. Otherwise, just hop in the tucker rocky catalog:

Go with EarthX I believe it is the only one with a self balancing circuit.

I will look at mine tonight.

I also get the feeling the OE one is not all that pokey so will probably swap mine out before it gives problems rather than waiting for the thing to strand me somewhere, reckon it will see me through this summer (coming up two years old in September) but I will put a new one on for next year.

Roanoke, VA - Past: Asheville, NC & Fayetteville,
just went thru all this with my bike a week or two ago - search the forum for my thread.

My bike came with the Yuasa YTZ12S. I opted with a replacement that I found for $129. The new battery sounds so much better than my dying older battery and I have had no issues since install.

Looks like it's a 30 dollar battery somebody put in for a smaller displacement bike. Didn't see where it was sealed or vented.

Don, not sure what you are saying. If you follow the links the YTZ12S factory activated maintenance free battery is $178.45
Umm, Tim? The original post was asking about the YB5L battery that was in his bike, not the correct YTZ12S. One is 30 bux, the other is much higher. I'd like to know if the dealership short changed him for a cheap battery or if he bought it second hand and somebody else installed it.

Hunt around online. You can get the YTZ12s for less than $178. I found it for around $130
What I listed was for general information. Many riders will mention something about "X" and not list a link. Pet peeve of mine is 'post a link of what you are discussing'. That keeps most referencing the same information.

Here is an off brand for $70 http://www.batterymart.com/p-YTZ12S-BS-AGM-Maintenance-Free-Battery.html Is this the correct battery? Darn good deal if it is.

Another for $77 http://www.powerstridebattery.com/utz12s-agm-motorcycle-battery-ytz12s

Yuasa http://www.amazon.com/Yuasa-YUAM7212A-YTZ12S-Battery/dp/B000WK0ZA8

eBay http://www.ebay.com/sch/Motorcycle-Parts-/10063/i.html?_sop=3&_fln=1&_catref=1&_vxp=mtr&_nkw=yuasa+ytz12s&_dcat=35571&Make=Yamaha&rt=nc

Look like there are many manuafacturers and prices.

I have a Yuasa YTZ12S as listed in the owners manual on my 2011 UK spec bike. Looks exactly like this

It seems to be a good battery, keeping a good charge even when not used for several weeks in winter. I've only needed to top up the charge once in 15 months (last year when we rarely had any decent riding weather).

http://www.tayna.co.uk/ have 3 options for this fitment. The Yuasa is £94 delivered, or you can have a Varta for £65 delivered.

The value for money option is a Motobatt - these batteries are building a great reputation in the UK and are available from http://www.hypermoto.co.uk/ in Gloucester or via their shop on Ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTOBATT-MBTX9U-YTX9-BS-CTX9-BS-YTZ12S-YT12ABS-YTZ14S-/160924286750?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2577d5bf1e - £45 delivered.
