Just back from having a new set of Michelin Anakee III tyres fitted. I'm fairly gentle on tyres I guess, as I was on 10,000 miles on the original Bridgestone's, and of course I've now only done 40 miles on the new ones but there were 2 things immediately noticeable. 1) the road/wind noise is certainly louder than the Bridgestone's but nothing too distracting. It's not like they are TKC80's or anything, by the time I'd got home I'd already gotten used to it. and 2) they seem to be a lot more in tune with the bike. I could immediately notice the improved feed back. I know there is always a noticeable difference when fitting new rubber, but these really feel very comforting. If they live up to the sales pitch I will be a very happy man. ;D

I was basically sold them following a chat with Michelin at the London Motorcycle Show this weekend. I'd gone to them hoping to find a deal on the Anakee II's. He was saying that although the II's have been very successful they are basically only evolutions of a trusted and well understood road based tyre. Now, with the advancement and popularity of big Adventure bikes, he says they have developed the new III from scratch. Designed particularly to cope with the weight and riding style of the big new adventure bikes (hence now apparently being fitted to the BMWs as standard here in the UK, I guess).
It should apparently get even better mileage than the II's (which are not being phased out yet...) but through improvements in the carcass structure and materials used, also improve both road and off road ability. I'm not even going to pretend I'm a big off road biker. In the UK a gravel road is more than likely either someones driveway or its a foot deep in mud track! (hmmm I do miss those long dirt tracks back in South Africa.... ::) So I don't expect to be testing the off road ability too much but the stated improvement in wet road conditions and better front to rear stability sound good enough to me. I guess I'll just have to see how they go. ::001::

Looking forward to hearing more of your impressions as you pile on the miles.
Just pulled off my Anakee II at 6700 miles in exchange for Metzeler Karoo for my purpose trip to all dirt/sand in Death Valley.
I plan on shoeing the Anakee III on when I get back from this trip.
Any chance to post a direct on shot of the front and rear. It's beneficial to see the profile the tire gives once mounted. Insight to handling - turn in, etc.

K60's

Yup, they have their place. I've got over 25,000 miles on K60s and they are a great tire.

I'm looking at a different tire for a different purpose right now.

If I was gonna stay OFF the off-road for a while, I think I would shoe some of these Michelins on myself. They are good looking too.

And if I were gonna stay OFF the road for sure, I would be doing what FireFight is doing as well.

The K60's are right in between.

Going to Big Bend in a couple of weeks. Wish I could mount knobbies. But it's 700 miles of Tarmac to get there. Gotta go the dual sport route.

Hope these give a better indication.

Must admit I'd do the same as you are planning to do. If you know you have a lot of off road... you fit appropriate tyres, for more on road... hope these do the trick. Good luck with your trip. Look forward to some pics and news ::001::
Do you mind me asking how much they cost you? I am due for a new pair of tyres soon and they are top of my list. My Bridgestones have lasted a mere 6000 miles so far (with about another 1000 to go if needed), but most of this has been 2 up with luggage and at a reasonable pace so I am not too disappointed.

Regards,

Matt

Wish I could ge that kind of mileage. I just changed my Tourance ( notEXP) at a little short of 6000 Kms. Admittedly the front had worn out two rear tyres, and most of my mileage is two up on country roads. Still fun has to be paid for. :D ::015::

I getting a set next week for my road trip to the Smokies, will have a report in a few weeks. You can purchase a set for around 300 from Competition Accessory.
