As I do not use my Tenere for Dirt roads and will probably never use it for them I decided to fit a set of Bridgestone BT023s hoping to gain extra mileage life and increased grip. I am running these with the same pressures (33psi front and 36psi rear) as the oe tyres. The motorcycle handles like a pig. Not at all like the slick machine it was with Tourance. Just wondering, would it be advisable to increase the pressures to 42psi front and 45psi rear as these seem to be the recommended pressures for most motorcycles using this make and model tyre ::020:: ::020::

on road pressure for me are :

front = 40

rear = 42

loaded or unloaded

BTW - I got +8000 out of the rear tire & still have on the front at +12000

New compliant comment: Maybe try a higher pressure

When you say handles like a pig. Do you mean slow and hard to turn or do you mean that it is always looking to turn and falls into turns too easy?

The tire profile on sport tires is so differant from dual sport. My Anekee 3s like to turn and the bike wants to wiggle more going in a straight line. Very minor diff from the K60 & tkc combo I came from but it is noticable. I do like the feel in a lean on the turns and it rolls into turns easiely.

All said 36psi is alittle low for the rear. about right for the front.

Worrying about tyre life on a motorcycle is counterproductive. Buy the tyres with mileage and performance you want then run the appropriate pressures for the load and the road. I'm still on the exps and cause of my weight I run 29psi front and 39 rear. I don't give a sh*t about tyre wear. Staying upright and comfortable is everything.

When I was a young fella, I used to use Pirelli phantoms. About 5k kms for a tyre but excellent grip. Mates used continentals and got 15-20k kms but at what price?

Choose your tyre mileage by what tyre you buy, not by the pressure.
The subject of mileage was not mentioned in the original post. The reason for change was clearly stated. The original query was with regards pressure. I do'nt give a sh*t what or who you rode when you were young. >:D :D :))

LOL,
Seems that Squarebore missed the original point of your post. I thought your reply was a bit harsh maybe, but funnty none the less.

I think the 40 Front, 42 Rear suggestion should make your bike a little more responsive.

I run my tires closer to the 40F 42R. It makes the bike more responsive and can be rolled into a turn until the pegs drag... I think that should make the feel go away.

On the side wall, what does the manufacturer say for maximum pressure? Go 90% of that and give it a try. Still sluggish, go 100%. The K60s were a low pressure tire that didn't perform well for me till I was 4-5 pounds over max.

I changed my original comment to keep you happy but you did mention mileage as one of the reasons you were fitting road tyres.

Ah. Irish. The land of my forefathers.

Yep, that would explain it. (according to my wife)

Cheers
