I am right at 3000 miles on her now and 2000 + of them have been riding 2-up. We came from a KLR and FJR riding both 2-up. I am very lucky I have a wife that likes to Adventure ride as much as I do. My wife loves the Big XT. She likes it better than the FJR for touring. The seat in stock form does fine for the both of us. Boxes loaded and riding 2-up the Big XT does great. We can ride all day on pavement loaded up and take to any hard packed dirt road we want. For us the Tenere replaces the FJR in the touring department.
As for the twisties the Tenere holds the line better than the FJR, a little slower turning in but that's not a problem for me due to the fact that the Tenere is all around more fun to ride. The FJR just sat in our shop while we rode the Tenere. We sold the FJR.
We have been on many adventure rides together on the KLR since 2006 and have had a blast with it. My wife never complains and when she says her butt hurts I would most likely be in traction by then. :'( Since we got the Tenere she doesn't even look at the KLR.
Now on the Tenere when I go to stop and give her butt a break she tells me what are we stopping for?
The Tenere does everything we did 2-up better than on the KLR, except for shallow water rock crossings due to the weight difference and rocks shifting. You can correct faster in that condition with alighter :-[ lightweight bike. This does not stop us from crossing, just makes you pick your lines better. As long as you stay to hard packed dirt 2-up, it is very hard to beat the Big XT.
I have setup the KLR for tougher stuff riding single and just can't see me selling it, although it mostly sets alone in the shop these days.
The Super Tenere in my book is a great all around 2-up adventure and touring motorcycle. I feel Yamaha hit the mark with this one. ::008::
