Turn Signals?

Are the 2nd gen and 1st gen turn signals interchangeable?
I would say probably not. Or not easily. There was member that recently flashed his ECU, and there is a suspicion that the flash caused signal issues.

EDIT: Found the thread, and the issue was caused by the flash.

Which makes me think that my initial no may be incorrect. With a virgin ECU, the switch may work. Numerous Gen I owners on here have switched their indicators. There are even several aftermarket option available.

Thank you for the reply. I am trying to find a decent looking replacement that doesn't require adding resistors. I wouldn't mind adding but if I could do it without adding them that would be great.

Rather than adding the resistors, can you not change the flasher relay on gen1’s? I hate the idea of using resistor, on all my other bikes I fitted LED indicators and then changed the flasher relay for an LED flasher relay and everything worked perfectly. As the Tenere doesn’t have self canceling indicators, I assume it uses a traditional flasher relay, so would be an easy change? Is this not the case?

yep,

you should be able on a gen 1 to change the flasher relay, as it has one but mine came with inline resistors that was easy plug and play

if your going aftermarket there are alot about you,ll need to add resistors if you use LED

I swopped my standard gen 1 orange indicators to the yamaha led with running lights and extra brake lights, they came with inline resistors

Which Yamaha lights did you use? Gen2 S10 or lights off of another Yamaha model?

There are a lot of really good replies in here.

I found a link to this flasher relay, which I think is pretty trick. The video included has a guy using on a Honda Shadow 1100.

I guess with this you could pretty much use any flasher you wanted. How many flasher relays does the Tenere have? The guy who did the video on the shadow looked to only replace one and it controlled all the flashers on his bike.

there are led bubls with integrated resistors. But for turn signal you dont need to add resistor but just replace the relay for a "led" relay. I replaced mine with an electronic relay that you cans et the blinking speed :)

Also I have adapters for the S10 "hole" so you can put any blinker on "screw" style on them
