Maybe the wrong forum, forgive me. Went down to my Yamaha dealer. Here's my 05 FJR, has 64,000 miles and farkles. What will ya give me to trade for that BLUE left-over 12 model Super T you got listed for 12,000 bucks? Of course he goes off to the boss. "Well this might insult you, we can give you 2,000 and the Yamaha $500 rebate." "Are you kidding me?"

So, I guess I'll put the FJR on Craigs. Anyone want to trade your Tenere for a well used FJ that thinks it's a Big Dually--It's done 2-up--Weston Pass, Boreas, Last Dollar, Flat tops scenic byway, Glendevy, Owl Creek Pass, Phantom Canyon, Shelf Road, and more. Oh, those are Colorado roads, by the way.

Life is interesting-----Laughing all the way ::025::

That's better than I would have been offered where I am. A private sale is definitely the way to go, good luck. ::008::

I always negotiate a cash price with dealers, and then ask what they would give for PX if I could not sell my bike before picking up the new one, that way I know the real trade in value - so far I have never failed to sell the bike for a fair bit more than the PX value and every time to the first person to see the bike...

Price it sensibly, describe it honestly and be prepared to accept a reasonable offer, this will never be what the bike is / was worth to you (or in your mind) but will almost certainly be above the dealers figure.

which dealer was this? was it in Metro Denver?

Vickery might be a better bet if you haven't tried there.....the owner rides a Tenere and they seem to have 2 or 3 on the floor at any given time

Hard to sell a 2005 FJR to anyone, since it is prior to the 2006 update, and with 64k it makes it worse. Just the facts. Why not keep it since you know it's been maintained, and it's not worth much on a sale.

All good comments.
Murphco-----this was the Vickery dealership. Their reasoning is they want to move bikes fast and don't want to take a chance on a 64,000 mile bike.
Yesterday, while showing a friend my highway pegs, I noticed a fork seal leak. I'll get those replaced and then move forward.
I have 3 blue Yamahas taking up one side of the garage. My wonderful wife says there isn't room for one more. ::005::

Kept mine. the protection on a long trip is hard to beat but you have to plan on not leaving the tarmac!

They ride gravel just fine. Yir A-Hole just puckers tighter.

Took my '05 out of St Marie ID up St Joe River Road and then Little Joe Road to St Regis MT. It was Lolo National Forest, it was gravel and logging trucks and it was one of my scariest rides ever. I need to do it again now on the Super Tenere and see how he compares to the Feejr.

@ OP. While I disagree with the commentary on the '05's value, If you can swing the $$$ keep it. It is a different tool and as good as the Super Tenere is, it aint no FJR on the asphalt. Take a look at the top 10 on the Iron Butt Rally.
