OK, so I feel compelled to post this as I am very impressed with the smoothness and responsiveness of my Super T after the latest adjustments made at my 8000 mile service point.

I turned my bike in to the dealer for my 8000 mile service and had them do some things early in preparation for my 8000 mile around the US trip starting June 12.

My dealer, Roseville Yamaha in Roseville, CA, is a top notch outfit!! They know their product, they talk the talk and they walk the walk! They are currently the #2 dealer in all of California and teh #7 dealer in all the USA. They move some volume and they move a lot of vehicles through their service department.

I could never convince you with this statement unless you really knew me but, for me to let a dealer work on my bike without my hawking over their every move is a testament to how much I trust what they do!! No, really!!!!!

So, they find several loose spokes in the front wheel and need to adjust the steering head bearings. Otherwise, the bike was fantastic and they said so. They went ahead and cleaned, lubed and reassembled the shift linkage as THEY noticed it was perhaps a bit off of spec for smoothness during shifting. Hmmm, that thing is buttah post service. I had planned on doing it myself but, hey, they caught it themselves!!

OK, on to why I'm posting.....

The regional manager for Yamaha in our area is currently on a Super Tenere. As such, and with Roseville Yamaha's ability to get "inside" knowledge on their products they went ahead and made some minor adjustments to improve the fueling and feel at the throttle. Mission accomplished and I liked what I had!!!

Here's is what I have

2012 Yamaha Super Tenere CA model
Akrpaovic slip on
Airscrew adjustment to put reference screw at 270 degrees from seated and synced to that.

That's it! No CO adjustment, Power Commander, etc. and no reflash.

What did they do?

Based on their information they went in to the TPS (throttle position sensor) and set it to a value of 14.

They then went in to the APS (accelerator position sensor) and adjusted it to a value of 17.

After the balance of the service and with my ride home after picking it up all I can say is, Holy Amaze Balls!! The bike has taken yet another step up from where it was in responsiveness, throttle feel, and the seat of the pants feel of better performance, and smoothness in both "T" and "S" modes.

I just wanted to post this up so others can see what I have, how I feel, and open it up for discussion on another possible improvement available to us as we continue to learn and improve our bikes.

Anddddd discuss........

I have had nothing but the very best of experience with them and have really grown to love and trust what they say. They don't say anything to me that they can't back up and provide an alternate resource to allow me to do my own homework with. It's great when I ask a question and if they don't know the answer they say so and follow it up with, "We'll find out and call ya back." I have always gotten that call back within a week. That is pretty amazing if you ask me.

Did they set BOTH TPS and APS sensors to those values?

You know you can see those values yourself in Diagnostic mode?

Service Manual Specs:
d:01 Throttle Position Sensor 1 9-20 closed (Left)
d:13 Throttle Position Sensor 2 7-23 closed (Right)
d:14 Accel. Position Sensor 1 12-22 closed / 97-113 Open
d:15 Accel. Position Sensor 2 9-25 closed / 97-113 Open

Yes, as my post clearly states they adjusted each to the numbers cited.

Yes, I have the manual and am fully capable of doing this. That's not the point of the post though.

Here's is more information and variables they each of us can look at and then decide if we want to apply them ourselves whether we do the work or have someone do it.

The benefit of Roseville Yamaha doing it? The got input from the mother ship that you as I don't have. That and I haven't seen anyone go in to these settings and adjust them to date.

I think the question was are both TPS and APS set the same as there are two sensors for each. It would seem odd to have the two TPS and the two APS set the same.

Did Roseville tell you what the settings were before they changed them?

I am interested in talking with Roseville about doing my next service.

You know that kind of info is gold dynamite to us DIY guys!

I just checked mine, and they were at those settings except d:15 was 16. I made no changes.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and whether Yamaha issues a service bulletin to change the settings. I have a fairly heavily modded FZ1 and am not interested in making radical mods to the Tenere but if a couple of tweaked can improve the drivability I will gladly avail myself of them!

Keep up the good work fellas, this information is priceless!

Did not see an answer to my question.

Phil, did Roseville tell you what the settings were before they changed them?

Why can't all dealers be on the ball like this? You would think Yamaha would want all dealers to demonstrate this level of service. The dealer I bought my ST from put over 50 psi in my rear wheel and 30 psi in the front. Silly me, I assumed when I picked it up brand new they would have at least checked the TIRE PRESSURE when they finished assembling it.

One more question regarding the pre-adjustment numbers - Just wondering if your mechanic mentioned if it was out of spec (below or above the Specified number). There seems to be quite a large variation in numbers?

Service Manual Specs:
d:01 Throttle Position Sensor 1 9-20 closed (Left)
d:13 Throttle Position Sensor 2 7-23 closed (Right)
d:14 Accel. Position Sensor 1 12-22 closed / 97-113 Open
d:15 Accel. Position Sensor 2 9-25 closed / 97-113 Open

Just checked my unaltered bike and the settings are:

d:01 Throttle Position Sensor 1: 14
d:13 Throttle Position Sensor 2: 14
d:14 Accel. Position Sensor 1: 17
d:15 Accel. Position Sensor 2: 16

Only one was off from Firefighter911 (Phil's) bike - APS #2, but it's close enough. My bike runs great. I have not messed with the CO adjustment or the air screws...yet.

Mine

d:01 14
d:13 14
d:14 17
d:15 17

stock, the air screws were fully in and the intake vacuum was 12.3 inHg (spec is 10.4-11.6 inHG) at 270 degrees out the intake vacuum is 11.2 inHg. Warm idle now steady at 1100 rpm ( was hunting before the change)

How does one gain access to the TPS adjustment? I have been in to adjust the CO values, but didn't see how to get to the TPS.

Thanks-

Wonder if it was a Cali bike only adjustment?
No, it is not a Cali only adjustment. The only difference with California bikes from the rest of the world is the charcoal cannister and plumbing for it. That's it. No different mapping, ECU, throttle bodies, etc. Only a charcoal cannister.

As for the access, as referenced above it is through the dash IIRC from what the dealer told me. I'll ask them next time I run through there to be sure.
