I've gone over 100 on normal roads only once that I can remember... But I've been 100 + off road a few hundred times.. ::26:: GPS indicated of course.

I've joked (probably shouldn't) that if I crash no one will say "the bike is over there"............................ They will say, "A part is over there,...................... another is over there" ::005::

A section of highway has been returned to 'unrestricted' in outback Oz.

I saw just over 200km/h (124 mph) on the GPS a couple of times.

Fully laden with pelican side cases and top box, chopped off screen and 40 litres (10.6 USG) of fuel on board.

The dash readout showing fuel consumption made me realise that at that speed I wouldn't make the next fuel stop.

Yes, 40 litres on board.

Que?
Do you mean the speed I did, the legal unrestricted highway, the panniers, the chopped off screen or the 40 Litres?

Here's the bike on the day, with auxiliary tank.

That looks well loaded Ox. I don't have the nerve to do those speeds through there (or anywhere). I'm to chicken sh*t. Have fun

Same stretch as Ox. Reached 200 on the speedo, then ran out of straight road and chickened out.
Bike had OEM side cases and topbox. No adverse effects caused by those....

Sold me ZZR1400 as it was always going way too fast for life / limb / licence.

As long as a bike pulls to a ton easily, and will hold that speed two-up I am very happy, miss the feeling of knowing I can blow everything else on the road away and recognise racving Ferrari's on straight roads is no longer plausible.

Not sure exactly how fast I have gone on this bike, defintately some way into 3 figures, but I think if I remember rightly it starts feeling a bit out of puff past 110 with fully loaded, and even with just the top box is starting to tail off significantly by 120.

I did my top speed runs in the US desert west, where it was flat and nothing was near the road. Around here, a damned deer would surely come out from behind that rock.

Here's a couple of threads on my tanks.

The first one shows the plumbing when I first mounted the JAZ tank and the second is for the aluminium tank.

http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4553.0

I had the tank fabbed by a local (Newcastle, NSW, Australia).

Since I posted the thread about the tank I've run it lots of times. I can get in about 17.5 litres, not 20L. Whether on the side or centre stand there remains a small unfillable section in the rear right corner, simply because I cant fill higher than the lowest edge of the filler neck (front left). Also the volume of the 3 x 3mm baffle plates within the tank displaces a bit more fuel.

In practice I:
- Fill both tanks;
- wait until fuel gauge flashes to indicate the main tank has hit 'reserve'. (This is an additional guide to current fuel economy, plus I know that all of the aux fuel can safely drain into the main tank without overflowing if I have stopped for a break or something).
- reach back behind my right hip and flip the valve open
- watch the fuel gauge rise
- ride on for maybe another 300km

I designed the tank but paid $300 for the construction, plus another $200 or so for all of the fittings.

Looks a lot like the aux tank our long distance rider here in the States, Eric, has on his bike. His hydration system is different though. Similar minds and all that... ::008::

Top speed run...

I'm a nut and have tested the top speed of my S10 - guess this is the right place to post about it ::26::

Level road - not much wind - no luggage - a standard 2015 S10 with around 5000 miles/8000km on the clock.

Hit 142 mph/229 km/h on the clock beforee I had to let go of the gas due to traffic. GPS indicated 133 mph/214 km/h.
At that point it felt like there was still a bit left in the engine. Maybe I get the chance to check that out another time.

The engine sounded and felt good at that speed and the bike rode like on rails.

This is the bike:

That is about the same as I got ::008::, I, however, don't think there is much more to go, it would take too long to get there to see

Barkers Lodge road (for the Aussies) chasing down a frustrated Blackbird rider who couldn't pull away from me (twisty road). 178km/h stable as a rock on TKC80's

The search function does work well but it is very much a one way conversation. Some people like to ask a question and have a live person answer it. That's what I believe makes the forum different and better than a database of answers. I often see the older members on forums get sick of answering the same questions. Asking the same question again can be good as new information might come out or it can make the issue topical again. So, go ahead, ask whatever you like I reckon.
::026:: That's how I see it too ::008::
