I have hit 110 mph effortlessly in touring mode...who has reached warp 1 yet? Anyone? What is the top speed of this beast?

The search function on this forum works really well and putting in the words top speed mph returned a bunch of earlier threads.

Yep, CW... Never seems folks want to do a search first, does it? ::025::

Besides, the way I figure it when it comes to top speed, for the folks who ask about whatever it is it never seems like fast enough, but it's for certain nobody ever spends much time there in the life of their motorcycle... ;)

To the best of my knowledge I've done over 100 MPH twice on a motorcycle. Once on a DL1000, once on the Tenere. Both were a surprise to me and only discovered on the GPS Max Speed. I've never considered it a goal, nor some kind of accomplishment. I'm pretty sure I could take any non-rider off the street and in a day teach them to safely hit 100+ MPH in a straight line. It's a near zero skill required maneuver.

I'm not a speed demon, I just like to see how fast my bikes can go. I get my speed fix at the track.

The search function does work well but it is very much a one way conversation. Some people like to ask a question and have a live person answer it. That's what I believe makes the forum different and better than a database of answers. I often see the older members on forums get sick of answering the same questions. Asking the same question again can be good as new information might come out or it can make the issue topical again. So, go ahead, ask whatever you like I reckon.

134 mph stock windscreen, stock tires, no hard luggage, sport mode, WOT for about 10 seconds at 134 and wouldn't pull past. Stock speed limiter I imagine. Haven't been past 110 since I put dual sport tires on it like it should have.

I was passing a car last year, and with a long empty straight in front of me, decided to stay on it for a few more seconds. I saw 125mph, and when I drifted back into my lane, felt the bike do a subtle, very slow wobble back and forth, like it was light on it's wheels, and not planted to the ground. May have been what the wind was doing, or any number of things, but it was enough for me to go, "whhooaaahhh, ease on back, that's enough of that." It felt obvious to me that aerodynamically, it's not meant for that kind of speed.

I was near Milford Utah (near Cedar City) a year ago and a few of us were on a completely deserted section of road where we left the bikes pinned for perhaps a 25-mile stretch. A 2006 GS and my S10 (very similarly-equipped) would run exactly 118 mph indicated flat out. The speed was very consistent, mile after mile. My bike has the typical 8% speedometer error, so this works out to be about 109 mph which seems somewhat disappointing as the magazines have reported around 124 true and I've seen 115 indicated on my old 62-hp Wee.

After the trip though, I did some back-of-the-envelope computations to correct for air density. Milford is at 5K elevation and the temperature that day was a warmish 80-deg. This works out to be about 7.5K feet density altitude (the equivalent altitude at standard temperature and pressure) where my 91-hp S10 was actually making about 72-hp. Do the math on the expected top speed for a 72-hp bike vs. a 91-hp bike and the top speed should drop about 14 mph. The discrepancy between my actual 109 and the computed 110 is noise level and I was running a load with full panniers and a top box which slowed things down... OTOH, the reduced air density should have added a little. But it basically all works out.

Net, net, the top speed of the bike with everything optimal is about 125 true or 135 indicated, but you'll seldom see this in typical service.

Hit the 120's a few times. About 123 speedo mph is standard flat roads on mine

Got to 130 once on a long slope on the Natcher in KY.

All on unflashed ECU with pipes and PCV.

Never had any head shake at any speed.

Had mine up to 103 mph actual speed with leovince muffler and
o2 elliminators and felt like it was running out of steam so 113
sounds honest. I also have larger windscreen but no bags at the
time.

Properly ridden, mine was stable approaching upper 130's by GPS. Won't tell you just how fast I have had mine, but my speedo stopped spinning at 142.... Once... C:) Had to rely on my GPS for ground speed. Just sayn'.....

>:D Bloody stupid - am I! Got into a stupid 'pissing competition with an Audi TT on the way up to NWales and really opened her up- as Iwas fuly laden with panniers and top box this was a bit stupid[ okay it was just stupid]- any way 130mph but then a nasty rear end weave! didn't brake just rolled off and it settled. Suspect the aerodynamics - air coming past me and hitting the top box [ actually better with a pillion on as she smoothes air flow... nn not the only reason I have you along Darling...]

On paved road I have hit 110. Now on dirt coming out of Death Valley on Death Valley rd I spooled it up to 95mph and maintained it for about 5 miles.

I know I'm getting old :'( but really guys, who cares? Will it carry you, a passenger and all your crap all day at a high enough speed to send you to jail? Yup...does it have enough umph to allow you to effectively pass a vehicle in front of you? Yup... So, really what else do you want. If top end is the issue, Adv Touring bikes are NOT the answer (BMW S1000RR, Ducati 1198; etc.) Just relax and enjoy your bike! ::021::

You are confusing this with a sensible topic for sensible people, the topic title really should have given it away that it was for nutters. Maybe you missed that?
