60 miles from home I stopped to buy some cheese curds, well I must have forgot to lock the top box, anyway I imeadiatly noticed there was just an empty hole where the lock was supposed to be, actually probably lucky I didn't lock it or the top box probably would have been locked closed with no easy way to open it. When I took the rubber cap off inside the box there were the 2 screws that were supposed to hold the lock in place just laying there. So I decided to take one of the side box latches apart to see what I might learn, the first thing learned is the screws for that lock were also loose ! But I guess it's kinda lucky they were loose because otherwise it would take somekind of special anti theft torx screwdriver to get them out. I was not very happy with the Yamaha luggage before this crap happened. Guess I will be buying a new lock, hopefully can get one with matching key . Has anyone else had this lock fell out and got lost issue ?

I lost one from my pannier last fall on a Vermont trip. It was loctited in and still came out. They aren't getting any cheaper! I made a useable opener out of a screwdriver handle when I stopped for the night at my brothers place. It works great and I haven't bothered to buy a new lock yet.

Thanks for the replies ! Figured I wouldn't be the only one to have this problem . Wish they hadn't used those goofy security head screws, where do you get a screwdriver that fits them ? I might look into switching to some standard head screws. The whole Yamaha bag locking system on the 2013 is crap , did they make any improvements in later years ? There was no kind of lock tight that I could see on any of the screws. Tomorrow I will stop at local dealer and see about ordering a new lock, wonder how many arms and legs that will cost and if the key will match the ignition ? $$$

HF carries the tamper proof tools, there is another tamper proof torx fastener on the passenger grab rails that requires one as well. It's worth having a set in your tool collection.

Yes, get the security torx bit so you can remove the OEM pannier racks and get a set of panniers that don't come with inherit design flaws :D

Thread lock red or blue - bought my tamper proof torx at an automotive store. I just needed the one for top box and spent less money. Very big design flaw in my opinion.

Thanks for the tips about the security torx drivers, nearest harbor freight is 50 miles and it's supposed to be a rainy day tomorrow so I might check the local automotive stores.
New lock from my local dealer is $35, a set of 3 locks would $84 , not sure what I'm going to do yet. Do you think a locksmith would be able to make a new lock work with my old keys so all the locks would match ? I Plan to use blue lock tight on all the screws.

Home Depot should have the bit for under $4. That's where I got mine.

locksmith can usually move the tumblers around for you to use your ignition key.

You can also get the bits from Sears if you have one nearby.

Sears is 50 miles away but we do have Kmart and Ace hardware which both sell Craftsman tools, went to Ace and bought a #10 bit for $1.69
Ordered a new lock from local dealer $36 it supposed to get here Thursday. will take it to local locksmith and see if he can make it match my original key. THANKS everyone for all the tips !

Put blue lock tight on the remaining four screws, they were all loose ! Now that the screws are all tight the locks SEEM to work SLIGHTLY better than they did before. Now that I'm aware of this crazy issue it will be fairly easy to be on the lookout for those screws coming loose. The new $36 top box lock is supposed to arrive Thursday, then hopefully a locksmith will be able to make it match the stock key.

Installed the new lock last week but of course the key didn't match my other locks  so I took nice 25 mile ride to a place with a locksmith , took about 5 minutes for the locksmith to move the tumblers to match my original stock keys ::003:: when asked what I owe he said you owe nothing just remember where you got it !!! ::003:: ::003::
This is the place

Think I'm going to forget the blue Locktight and put red Locktight on all those lock screws instead .
