Tool roll tube installation location question

These tool roll tubes are cheap so I picked one up to see about mounting it. Low and behold, it fits my tool roll perfect. I have Bumot Panniers with the added tool box. That tool box is filled with a small air compressor, plugs, etc.

So I started looking for mounting options. The non-exhaust side won't work under the tool box as it could possibly hit the rear brake assembly in full compression. So I'm looking at the exhaust side. I have it lined up so the lid is facing the front of the bike so someone couldn't open it quite as easily, but still easy to open with a little work which I hope to rarely need the tools. Only thought is the exhaust as there's about 1/2" clearance at one end. Thoughts? Touching the exhaust shortly after my ride home today to check on its heat, I personally do not see it melting this tube without touching it. The tube is pretty hard plastic. Here's a few pics holding it up.

I screwed mine to the back of my Pelican cases.

Yeah, the Bumot tool box thing - on the inside of the right pannier. You can just barely see it behind the right turn signal.

On another note - my wife is getting the hardware I need to hopefully mount it tonight. I'll post pics after.

your bike appears to always lay on it's side ::024::

If your tool box is already full of tools, perhaps an altrider rear rack with the cubby underneath might give you enough room for the other tools.
I was going to have a toolbox made to mount inside of my racks, but with the asymetrical Givi racks there wouldn't be enough room. So for now when on a trip I have been using a Kriega 10l bag strapped to the passenger seat. Which is sorta inconvenient.

FYI installed as I mentioned - won't work lol. Exhaust fumes aimed down melted right through it. The tool tube is cheap so I'm thinking about a possible work around.

I don't think I have a picture handy, but on my Buell Ulysses I mounted the same tool container horizontally under the rear fender and between the panniers using the pannier frame cross rod for mounting. You have to remove one pannier to open the tube, but on the Buell that was trivial. Something similar might work on the ST.

Here is where I put mine
That looks great. Not quite as discrete as I'd want but it could work. I'll have to see if they will fit under my bumot rear rack.

If you wanted them to "lock" and aren't concerned about 100% waterproof, you could easily drill some small holes in the lids and run one of those pac safe cable locks through it.

Hi Barnstormer

Did you raise your rear box plate to get more space? What size (outer diameter) tube are those?

I replaced my rear seat with a small Pelican case. Holds tools, air pump and some other items I want to always have along. Easy to lock too.
