Gen2S10
2 Great Yamaha products share my garage.
Well it finally showed up. I picked up my 2014 Super Tenere ES 2 days ago. The dealership was very accomodating. Before I signed for it the salesman offered me several items that could be included in the final sale. One of those things was an additional 48 months of warranty for $799.00. I refused it, and I pointed out to them that on this very forum that I could get the same thing for hundreds of dollars less. It was then that the sales manager came over asked me to give him a chance to match the price if I could show it to him. Once he saw it he said that he couldn't match it but could only offer dealer cost of $499 and went back to his desk. I told him that I would just get it here then. Later as I was finishing the purchase order he came back to me and said he would offer it to me at $400 and a $250 credit for parts. Well I jumped at that one. I think I made a good deal, others may not agree.
Now on to the Super Tenere itself. Let me preface this with the fact that my other motorcycle is a 2009 Yamaha Vmax which when bone-stock has about 175HP. Mine is fairly modified so it has more than that. For a big bore muscle-bike it is quite nimble (unlike the Gen 1 Vmax) and I ride the twisties on it often. It is 1700cc, low but heavy, and it goes very fast very quickly.
The Super Tenere immediately impressed me with the light weight and ease of riding. I love the seating position as it is relaxed and open. The stock exhaust is deceptive to the power that is available as it is really, REALLY quiet. I am able to pass cars with ease without downshifting even in 6th gear. I have only put about 300 miles on so far but I am enjoying this bike a lot!
When I need to be a hooligan I have the Vmax. For everything else, Super Tenere.
