To wave or not to wave.

I wave to most everyone, unless I'm distracted by something else. I find it funny that the HD bat-wing riders are pretty snobbish, and will return my wave only about 50% of the time even when I'm on my Harley.

Always wave, doesn't matter the bike I'm on or the other riders bike. However, when on my Harley all the Harley guys wave. On the Tenere or my KLR I get less that wave back to me.

Want to see someone really get strange looks, me on my Harley Ultra and dressed in my off road gear including my red MX helmet. Not only do they wave, the stare to find out what this strange rider is doing dressed like an MX rider on a Harley. Got to keep them guessing...

Maybe scooter riders are a different lot in other parts of the country. But in Vegas, they ride on all the streets except interstates. They have no helmet, no insurance, no plates, no drivers license, they pay no registration fees. Besides that they go slow and generally piss me off. Say what you will, I will not wave to scooter scum! :)
Sounds like the meninites here except they're on horses ::002::

I wave to those with "legit" scooters (50cc & above with legit plates which means helmet, insurance, drivers license & registration) and generally avoid small scooters because 1.) they have little or no training and experience & 2.) they are dangerous because of their inevitable stupid decisions.

Other that that everyone gets a wave, & if I recognize the rider an ADV salute.

Very few people in the UK wave for the simple reason that it is very difficult to wave when you ride on the left side of the road (you can't take your hand off the throttle to wave, unless you have cruise control) so we all just nod at each other. I personally will nod at anyone with two or three wheels and an engine, Harleys, BMWs and scooters included :) If someone doesn't wave back then that makes me better than them ;) I love travelling in mainland Europe because it gives me the chance to wave properly. I also like the leg wave bikers in Europe do when passing or being passed on the motorway.

I wave... I don't care what people ride... When people look straight ahead and don't wave I just laugh... Makes my day either way..

You mean you Limey guys don't switch the hand controls to the opposite side? That must be confusing. :)

I forgot to mention... in California we can share / split lanes. I try to wave at the drivers that give me additional space. Just giving credit for the courteous drivers.

I like the leg wave from England, if they don't wave back, it's like you're lifting your leg to pee on them. ::025::

Took the 1st ride of the season yesterday. Still 4ft of snow in the ditches & gravel o n the road, but what the hey, it's an adventure bike ::025::
Anyways, I had at least half a dozen trucks & cars wave at me, in the hour or so I was out. I saw 1 other motorcycle
and HE DIDN'T wave, and a KLR to boot :)) :))

When I gave up road motorcycling for 30 years for a family and career (okay, we sometimes make silly decisions), I used to lament at not being part of "the club" anymore when I would see motorcyclists wave at each other from the confines of my "room on wheels". So, now - on my Super Tenere: f***ing right I wave! To me it is an acknowlegement across the lanes of why you ride: "Yeah, I get it". If someone doesn't wave back and it doesn't look like they were distracted, I simply mutter: "Wanker" and ride on! No big whoop.
(This is banned in California -really? Has the AMA got a position on this?)

A safe wave, well a wave in a tight corner, dragging a peg, just shows you're a REAL man. Just kidding! Maybe a nod will suffice at that point.
