This is a very different bike to my S10 (no kidding). It just give me an opportunity to let my hair down (mot that I've got much) :)

One of my reasons for buying the street tracker version, was the black frame (the standard UK bikes don't have this option). The whole effect is very subtle with deep bronze wheels and cam cover.

Riding around slowly has given me no problems and I don't find it snatchy at all. In A mode the bike pulls like a train, with std used for around town and general shopping. B mode for trundling around behind SWMBO on her Thruxton or XJ6, while I attemp to get the ECO light to come on

I have had to remove the handlebar cross brace (the dealer left it loose on the PDI) when I fitted and wired in my GPS. I will put it on my Super Tenere, so it won't go to waste.

The top right radiator mount was not fitted properly. The large washer was missing which allowed the Allen bolt to pull through the rubber mount. The radiator had a lot of unwanted movement and rattling as a consequence. So a new washer and re-tightening has solved that one.

The headlight adjustment was way off and was dazzling the birds, so I have corrected that.

I have removed the horrible big white safety sticker from the fuel tank and fitted a Yamaha MT-09 tank pad which goes very well with the overall scheme.

I have carried out a quick run in procedure and changed the oil and filter right away after 50 miles.

Initail impressions are very positive. It's a great fun ride.

In the USA there is a freeze on releasing the FZ-09 from the dealership. There is going to be a recall on the headlight wiring harness. The harness gets tight when full lock in one of the directions.

Love this motorcycle. Wish I could talk myself into buying one.

That's a shame. We haven't had a recall in the UK. I presume it's a different wiring spec.
I took my S10 for the headlight harness recently. The dealer has ordered the parts, they stated that it's nothing to worry about and it can be done when the bike is next in for a service.

It isn't for a faulty headlight harness though a headlight harness that is too short or routed improperly.

If you're ever feeling playful, could you see if that FZ fender assembly will fit the Tenere. I like the bare metal mix. ::26::

Great to hear about this bike. For the past month I've been looking at the FZ09 and the Street triple as an alternative for commuting and fun. Still can't decide because many comments on the snatchy throttle and crappy suspension. Neither of which you mention. I have to seriously consider this as the leading contender. I rode a Tiger 800 and liked it but didn't love it. This sounds like a blast.

I've done a few hundred miles on it now. Chicken strips have gone and the hero blobs have been kissing the Tarmac.

I firmly believe that this bike does what it says on the tin. It's great fun to ride, has amazing torque with predictable and quick steering. Sure, you can upset it, but I can do that with any bike. This bike has plenty of character, it's like an excitable puppy.

I bought it because it is so different to my S10. Both bikes are keepers.

I'm going to be picking one of those up soon. It'll be replacing my Super Tenere sadly. I've got a DR650 for dirt now.

great bike.
I've sold mine after 5500km.

My biggest complaints were:
-ECU sorted with a flash for $200, apparently yamaha are offering free reflashes for the fz09
-front fork were sorted with springs for my weight, and one grade heavier oil $150
-Rear end was hopeless, Sorted with a penske shock for $1200
-I did the sponge seat mod...free!!
-MRA screen
-Rear luggage

The bike was a torque monster. It wheelied in 2nd gear on power alone, at sea level mind you.

Great looking bike and I'm sure it'll be a hoot. My local dealer (Ian Bell) had a yellow Roberts replica in a while ago and it looked gorgeous. Enjoy ::008::

I rode my friends for about 30 minutes. It had some very good and not so good points. Engine is super, suspension is lacking. If we could get an ABS bike here in the States I would probably own one and upgrade the suspension. For some reason Yamaha doesn't think we need ABS here.

price point. That's it. I've asked why ABS is not an option. Simply put they don't listen.

I understand the price point thing. The could always offer it 2 ways, ABS and non ABS. Charge extra for the ABS model. I for one would pay it and it would turn me into a buyer.

that what I told them many times. They don't listen.
I'm guessing that IF they offered the ABS as an option, 90% of the bikes would sell with ABS.

Who is "them". Who and how are you 'telling' them?

I do agree with you about the 90% ABS purchases. And if that is true it would not be worth Yamaha's time to offer the non-ABS model.

Yesterday I stopped by the local Yamaha dealer and the Yellow 2015 FZ-09. Like the color but don't like it with the color of the forks.

them is Yamaha :D
who else could them be?

Tell you the truth, I honestly think the fz07 is a better bike. Fuelling is perfect, suspension is just as cheep and cheerful as the 09. Great power too for a small bike.

I have ridden both the 09 and 07 and don't have the same opinion but hear more testimonials like yours. I found the 07 to be flat on power delivery but I expected that. Brakes were not inspiring. The 07 felt small... it is. Overall a good Yamaha. Would I own the 07, sure... but I would rather put that money towards something more fun, more comfortable, and more powerful.

the fz07 is small. but I think I can fix that with an airhawk (leg room) and a decent screen.
Tell you the truth, you could never ride the 9 at wot.
the 7 you could. I think in the end it would be more fun. The 9's tank was annoying. 200km and you're pushing. With the 7's better fuel economy, you could strech that to 250km or more.

One way to find out. Unless they ;D bring out something mind blowing (small tenere ::010:: ::010::) I'll be putting a deposit on a new 7 early next year.
Maybe even in time for the march cali trip. should give me plenty of time to order: screen, crash bungs, rear swmotech rack.

I'm putting up my used fz1 on the block. I have a nicely sorted dr725 in the garage, that i'll turn into a serious gravel/easy single track blaster, the tenere stays put, and the fz7 would be my commuter, short trip sport tourer
