Choice scenery!

It was gorgeous all the way there and back, but all the best bits were too narrow to stop and take pictures. The other bike is my old 103,000 mile Versys that I sold to my mate rather than part ex it for the Yamaha.

I was watching that race and saw that happen at the time. The wheel actually failed with the hub separating from the rim. There's another series of photos showing the spoke(s) starting to break and then the wheel completely fails. The bike was a Ducati with a single sided swing arm, so once the wheel separated from the hub, it was free to roll away. The rider was not badly hurt as I recall.
