Yeah, I can agree with the "to each their own" group. But I've never liked a slushbox in a car nevermind my motorcycle. My FJR kid and I have nearly identical Jeeps. His is an automatic though. Totally changes the Jeep, negatively, in my opinion. (he prefers a manual also but couldn't pass up the price)

I would like a bike with a proper overdrive 6th gear. Dct for a more dialed touring setup might be nice tbh.

All depends on how simple they do or don't make em.

Stark Varg makes me not hate the future of bikes either.

Change is hard. Idk how to feel. I'm not getting any younger either.

"My" opinion is that C.A.F.E. ruined the auto trans. Because most auto trans shift just as the power is being made for the sake of fuel mileage. If I need more power, I just hold a gear 'till it's past that gear's powerband to the detriment of fuel mileage. I like require that choice in my bike and my car.

With today's technology, having a multi-style auto trans would be easy. My wife's new CX-50 has a "sport" mode on the trans. It shifts harder and at a higher rpm than "normal" mode. They could program a trans to shift for power instead of mileage. If they truly wanted to get better mileage, the "remote start" feature would be eliminated.

Both my NC700 and Goldwing have DCT. Even though it is automatic, it has paddle shifters to force a shift either up or down if you desire. So if you feel like you need more power, you force it to down shift and it will hold that gear until you roll off the throttle or you hit the rev limiter when it will automatically downshift.

The Goldwing also has a sport mode which will hold the gear longer before shifting. Maybe either one of these will give you the desired feel.

NC700XD has been flawless, 70 or 80% of the Goldwings sold are now DCT. The AT shifts where you want it to and I have heard guys love it as they are not worrying about clutch while negotiating rough stuff and slow at the same time. The ST has more low end grunt than an AT so I can leave it in a higher gear and use that torque when in 2nd. But, before I came across the smokin deal for my ST I was headed for a DCT AT. As Sierra1 said... you can shift at anytime with the left hand thumb or index finger. Plus on the right you have D, N, Sport. Maybe 3 options for Sport. The DCT adds somewhere between 20-25# to the bike. They are tough and don't fail.

I know a much better option, no AT needed, no shifting needed whatsoever, just one single gear at any single speed, a much faster bike, with more torque…....The new electric Super Tenere! (Also apply for Goldwings and others)

I am sure new generations would embrace the new concept, like they are embracing EV today. In my opinion, Motorcycles are gradually loosing the essence of what really makes a motorcycle -historically speaking- to the point that I really miss to be able to kick start my ST. I still remember bikes 500cc and up use to have a lever to decompress the engine, in order to fire it. That’s much more exciting in my opinion.

it seems these companies today are adapting quickly to the new changes in order to produce new motorcycles for stupid people.

Even with a quick shifter on my current bike, I find I enjoy manual shifting most of the time. If I was still commuting like I was in L.A., even with the ability to split traffic, I would have loved to have a DCT bike.

Most millennials don't know how to drive a manual transmission. I think if the younger crowd is going to get in to riding, automatic transmission is the only way they will be interested
