dcstrom, Checkswrecks and I met for breakfast this morning before heading out to Romney West Virginia for to get the recall work done.

As always Romney was good to us. Took care of the bikes and even loaned us a car to take to town for lunch. So nice to see what excellent dealership service looks like. Very different from what I expect close to home.

We searched for some good dirt roads, but short December days and privately owned mountain roads conspired against for anything significant.

Two of our three bikes had twisted gaskets.

Really enjoyed getting together with the guys today. Thanks for a good day.

Good pictures of a nice clear day. Wow 2 out of three. That is serious numbers. How long did it take recall work take? Hopefully some dealers read this thread.

Not long, but not sure how long. By the time we got back from getting lunch they were all done. Romney Cycle Center does things right.

Great pictures and report. Did either of the two show any evidence of leaking?

That's really cruel, you guys. Where's the snow? Where's the cold ? Where's the bitter north wind ? You guys should be ashamed of yourselves, reeking of dirt and leaves. Well, nice pics ... I guess. Hope you had fun ... I guess. Wish I was there ... FOR DAMN SURE !!!! ::014:: ::014::

Drive save, and don't leak .... ::025:: ::025:: R

Where's the cold? It was 25 degrees F when I was getting geared up to leave. Does that count in your neck of the woods, or is that a comfy December day?

None were leaking. The dealership said dcstrom had the first bike that wasn't twisted. They've done seven so far.

25 F would be ... crisp. About - 4 C, which is what it is right now. I'll be going for a ski today. Glad to hear you guys don't leak. Boy, that brown stuff sure looks good to me. I hope you guys had a good day. Sounds like you did. R

Funny how those photos look like mine:

The twisted o-ring is REALLY easy to overlook. There are some very small tabs hidden beneath it.

Anybody want a Goldwing trike and a Mustang trailer? ::) This was at Romney Cycle:

Rem can live vicariously through us.

Later I got to watch Trevor leave me in gravel. The 8,000 miles on my stock Bridgestones wasn't much for traction.

Toldja I had a similar shot.

Nice shot. Any more like that?...for Rem to enjoy, of course.

Yes, very nice day. Romney Cycles looked after us well - took them about two hours to do the three bikes, with 2 guys working on them. As I've always suspected, my bike was put together by a professional - the other guys had bad o-rings, obviously an amateur mistake.

I actually love riding out in WV on these winter days, as long as I can keep warm - the only problem is the short days, made shorter this time by having to spend time at the bike shop.

We had a hard time finding some dirt roads - which was surprising, never usually have problems out there... but had never tried close to Romney before, there are lots of dead-end roads. There are roads that look like they go over the mountain, but some developer has bought swathes of land and gated the roads.

Next time - more time to ride and better planning!

Trevor

Worth noting - today I had a follow-up call from Eric, service manager at Romney Cycles, to check that everything was OK with the o-ring fix. These guys are on the ball!

RANT: Come on dc. Tuesday I had to go to the dealer service employee and ask when they were going to start the recalls. Got a lame excuse that included there wasn't a recall number issued yet. I asked if he wanted me to provide the number. He got on the computer and found it. He ordered the part and I will take it in when I return. The part that irritates me the most is a customer has to take the lead.

Okay I feel better now. Time to sleep.

This reinforces the two phone calls I've made to Romney's. The second was requesting a quote (to includes all fees, blah, blah). Fellow was completely up front, even volunteered he could find a Raven if I want one for the same price quote.

My local dealer is telling me you can hardly get the S10 and the one on their floor was a fluke. Plus $15K before any fees and they won't tell me what the fees will add up to.....

Someone please buy my old R1100RS soon!!

An RS, wow! A guy I ride with every once in awhile has a red RS. Seems like he spends to much time fiddling with his ABS to get it to work right...even while rolling down the road he has to cycle the key sometimes! His latest folly was letting the bike idle too long during an MSF course...OOPS there went the slight glass and a lot of the oil all over the ground. :D I know I shouldn't laugh :-X

For the ABS, he either needs a new battery or he needs to do the waiting trick before hitting the starter. Turn on key, wait for ABS lights to cycle at least 3 times, start bike. The battery may seem fine, but if it's at all under a certain voltage, the abs faults. You either have to ride on a regular basis or keep it on a battery tender. Might help him a little....

As for the sight glass, I've heard of that being an old age thing for the rubber seal around the glass. May replace mine...
