Am I the only one that finds reading this forum agonizing? There are so many junk posts that don't add value to threads.

I am mostly a reader of the forum because just about any question I have has been answered several times. I end up spending hours sifting through heaps of meaningless content to find that little bit of wisdom.

For the sake of future readers, don't reply to a thread unless you are actually adding valuable content. Feel free to express opinions and feelings in discussion threads, but, for the love of god, leave the technical threads alone!

Surely you know the difference between a proactive thing and a reactive one. Like “value”, it is something subjective….when creating a “reactive” post,…the responses you will read will be of the same “reactive” type….until someone can ask you “how much value did the post add to the forum?”….
i think that if what you are looking for is “added value” in a response, you yourself have to generate that added value to appear, generating a proactive situation….
To avoid subjectivity, someone very intelligent created Artificial Intelligence….where if you ask something, the answer is “simply”…no additions, no subjectivity…just the answer….

this forum has been active for a long time now , and people post what ever on their minds . sometimes it's redundant . jwrands, you have been a member 2 years and have barely contributed and are complaining about unnecessary content .
the forum is more about members connecting with other people of like interest than just fixing a problem on a remarkable motorcycle .... so rabbit trails exist , and a lot of us enjoy hunting rabbits I think . and after being a forum for 13 plus years this site is still as much about people as it is about a machine .

Why can't everyone be perfect like us?
Now you may well see how comments without benefit of facial expression might be taken quite literally.
I know better and I applaud your sense of humor.
All the best.

I agree with the OP, though I think the last sentence should be the first as IMO the message is lost.

Chit chat is great in chit chat threads.

Wonder if I've contributed enough to be allowed to give an opinion....

To the OP: I understand the frustration from the perspective of a purely technical thread. That said, I would opine that this forum has become more of a social organization/meeting place for a majority of the members than strictly a resource to share knowledge of the S10 and related topics.

As you have stated, most of us have been here for a long time and have seen most common questions more times than we can count, so we tend to devolve into banter whenever another "my CC stopped working" or "bike cranks but won't start" post appears. I think that part of the problem is the fact that the search function sucks on this site so newer members are forced to create a new (redundant) thread because they can't find an answer to their question. Stricter moderation of technical threads may help. Cleaning up the existing tech threads and pinning popular topics may help too, but the Mods have better things to do with their lives.

The social aspect is part of the charm and uniqueness of this forum. There is a reason why members that have long since changed loyalty to another brand remain here and contribute regularly. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I respect your opinion but I kind of like things the way they are. You can always click away from the threads that you find frustrating, report content that strays off-topic to the Mods, and set those members that grind your gears to "ignore" (I have a pretty large list myself).

Just my humble reply to your inquiry......

Searching for stuff in here on Google seems to work way better than the awful search engine that's built into the site. If I'm looking for something in here, I just type "Yamahasupertenere.com: why won't my cruise control work?" into google and that will provide much better results.

And to the OP: I doubt you're the only person in here who finds it agonizing (I'm sure it bothers a lot of members, when they're the one searching for an answer), but I bet most are willing to put up with the bullshit in order to get the free advice. If you pay enough attention to the site, you'll soon realize which members are going to provide really useful, helpful info and you'll just zero in on their posts and ignore the rest. If you find a thread about some issue you're having with the bike, you can quickly scan a multi page thread and look for someone like Tabasco's name. It's a safe bet that you'll probably get whatever information you're after by reading his responses.

The type of demand you're making isn't possible without some very heavy handed moderation, which requires a lot of effort on the part of unpaid moderators. I think it would also drive people away from what's essentially a social media forum and not an online tech manual. If a mod starts screaming "off topic" constantly and start cutting posts left and right, lots of members will get put off and won't bother any more.

You're looking for a social media site without the social media format; basically, you want a "shut up and answer my question so I can leave" format. That doesn't exist on the internet.

For someone new to the forum and excited to modify that new (to them) bike, I am sure it is frustrating to have to wade through all the blather.

It's just that some of the mods, I did were years ago and I'd have to search to remember exactly what I have done.

I do think it would help to have a changing of the moderators, especially if you have moved on from even riding a Super Tenere. Just my opinion and you know what they say about that.

Thank God the vaccination thread got nuked. It was the most divisive thread I have ever seen. Worse than an oil thread.

so I'm home and reread my post , sounds bit harsh , morning coffee had not quite done its job . once in awhile I research something here and you have to sort through some stuff , but I've been a member a long time and I think my statement on , its about people as much as the machine runs true .
as for those who ask already asked questions because you'r new here , well welcome . some one will direct you to your destination . and sometimes friendships start that way.

To me this a just another example of what we're dealing with in Texas. People moved to Texas, because they didn't like where they were. And now they're trying to change Texas to be just like where they left. Nobody asked them to move here. Nobody forced them to move here. And nobody's forcing them to stay. Just like here. We don't force people with Teneres to join. We don't force people to stay. We are who we are. Don't try to make us change. Don't like a thread or member? Don't interact.

Have a nice day. :)

I have found some really useful information on this site and I am grateful for the generosity of those posting.
For example, I didn't know there were such things as radiator coolant test strips. Finding that out saved me time and money.

It makes it worthwhile, to me, to scroll through the less informative stuff.

Such as - 'I'm buying a tire tomorrow' instead of - 'I bought a tire six months ago and this is what I have found'.
