Holy crap!!! Some poor guy complains about his S-10 not being fast enough for HIM and 9 pages of thread emerge ::)
It's simple, really. Generally, the higher the skill set that you possess, the more power you want. End of story.

For some people, it's all about speed.

A couple of days ago, I was on my way to work with the S10. While packing my gear away, an old woman saw my bike and struck up a conversation. She asked me how many CC's it was surprised when I said 1200 CCs. She asked me how fast does it go. I replied that this bike is built for long distance comfort onroad and offroad, not built for speed. Something clicked for her and I think she realized there's more to a bike than just top speed.

My Super Ten has enough get-up and go for my needs, but really, you can't have too much power on tap (well, okay, unless it gets to the point where it is like a full-blown racebike and is barely controllable.) I have always believed in safety through horsepower. ::013::

Top speed does not matter to me... until it does. Like when I'm riding with my buddy and he takes off in a speed challenge. ::26::

Well there's this (couldn't tell you what power mode he was in). Notice how close he gets to getting absolutely TOSSED off the bike a ways in.

Chris Birch gives KTM1190 Wings!

But then there's this, too. I don't jump my tenere up 3-4ft rocks like the guy on the KTM, but David puts on a good show with the '14, too ::26::

220 lbs rider with 50 lbs of gear 119 mph recorded on my gps. Id say that's fast enough

cruising on I-10 up the hill in the wind and able to pass at will at any speed with just the twist of the throttle.. I'd say its fast enough.

riding with my my friends with a adv 990 and BMW 1200 play drag racing while on the straight-a-ways...... I wish it had more

wonder if anyone has done any head work to make this puppy breath ? I'd be interested in see what a performance builder could make the engine do..

I came from a 08 CBR 1000RR. The acceleration was so severe, one might question whether you could, in fact, time travel.

The highest speed limit in the U.S I believe is 80mph? I could do 100 mph in first gear, acceleration gets old quick, and at a certain point you end up breaking the law.

I now ride a '13 S10, I love my ABS, my traction control, my comfortable riding position, my ability to carry tons of crap, my ability to adventure the US, ride worry free in the rain etc etc.

My sport bike could go fast in a straight light and corner well thats it. The S10 does ALL the above AND corners extremely well. Keep the acceleration.

I have nothing constructive to add, in fact, fiction, or kool-aid induced stupor, but the thread subject reminds me of the standardized tests we used to take in the '60s:

This bike is to slow:

a) as blue is to red.
b) as hot is to cold.
c) as sharp is to loud.
d) all of the above.

:)

I really can't believe with all the panty bunching going on that no one has pointed out that he wrote "to" instead of "too" in the title. Really, talk about embarrassing

You're the one that should be embarrassed. ::024::

Hmm, came across this site in UK.
Looks interesting since I have a full exhaust system as a start. Maybe I can crank some more ponies (and better response) from the engine :p

Welcome back Klenoth.

As the OP, I was wondering if the amount of noise in this thread drove you away.

Flashing the ECU Sport mode does a LOT toward what I believe you are asking for. The data cable and software look like one way to alter the flash in the ECU, you could do your own custom tuning, and you could then alter what you didn't like.

You may also consider emailing AVC8130, who has dedicated threads on this forum. He has flashed the ECU for many of us and (with shipping) for less than half the price of the UK cable he could give you the benefit of experience with one of the maps that he has developed.

When, or if, your skill set develops, you'll understand :D

We agree, but is it not common knowledge that the S10 is not a racer?
