These grips are killing me

These grips are killing me, so small around that it gives me cramps. I have large hands and before any one starts in, all it means is it’s nearly impossible to find gloves... nothing else!! Is there a solution? Does having heated grips complicate the solution?

I feel your pain. 4XL gloves are hard to find and the stock grips much too small. I installed Oxford heated grips, which are a bit larger than the stockers, then added Grab On foam sleeves over the grips. They now measure 40 mm diameter rather than 32 stock. Very comfortable for all day riding, and the heat still gets through just takes a bit longer.

I've had the Grip Buddies for a year or so and 25k now and they are just starting to show some wear. Easy to install and comfortable. I always changed grips in the past, but with the factory heated grips that wasn't an option. (The element is in the grip, not under it.) Generally satisfied with them. Might try the Grip Puppies next time when these wear out.

Deciding between buddies or puppies.
Is the seam that the buddies have where it connects to the Velcro strip intrusive or annoying when gripped?

You can orient the seam anywhere. The suggested location on the bottom seems fine to me. I tweaked it a small amount so my fingertips were not against the seam, which felt more comfortable to me. Haven't moved them since. The adhesive allows some adjustment when you install them, so after I first put them on, I took a short ride, moved them a little, and have been happy since.

Thanks for your quick and informative reply. I think I prefer the textured, rubber buddies rather than the foam puppies.
I have the Yammy accessory heated grips so I assume that the rubber buddies will be okay to use on top of the heated grips. You mentioned adhesive,
can you clarify about that?

Yes, fine on factory or other heated grips. I have factory heated grips. The adhesive is just a strip about 1/2 wide to stick the 'tail' of the Grip Buddy in place, then you wrap the rest, (no adhesive on it), around the grip and attach the velcro to the tail to secure the whole thing in place. The adhesive is just tacky enough to help you put the grips on, but it also seems to help avoid unwanted movement once they are in place.

FWIW, I have the foam Grip Puppies on another bike and they are quite durable. The one piece construction means removing the hand guard ends to install, but that's not a big deal. I got the GB on sale at a BMW event and bought them as an impulse buy, but am happy with them too.

Mine lasts typically 2 seasons. Easy to get on or off with an air compressor to push air between the grip and the foam, slides on and off easily like that.

Try Aerostich for the gloves. I think they have sizes to 13 and seem to be generously sized.
