For guys who watch for water coming off the car tires, how well does that work a night? Not that you could enter a shaded, wind swept area that might be holding a surprise.
I didn't think the factory temp gauge read ground temp or into the future. ;)

I wish mine wasn't off, too. Mostly because I'd like for it to be right, but I don't stress on it. I mentally subtract 5 degrees form what it's reading and it tends to agree with what my phone is showing for current weather if I stop and check it.

I'd ditch air temp for tire pressure in a heart beat.

Some people can't wait to add a gear indicator, either. I just figure out what RPM I want to be operating at if I want max power, other wise I make a mental note of what rpm 60-70 mph is in top gear, and stop shifting. ::001::

I got fed up trying to use the intake air temp display as a thermometer that I installed one of these from TrailTech. It works, just wish it was backlit for night riding.

So where does the probe go? This model looks like it's suitable for air intake, while others are clearly for coolant and oil temp. I didn't see any that were promoted as ambient air thermometers. Trail Tech is kind of into hardcore parts and your basic outdoor air thermometer isn't very hardcore

I mounted the temp probe in the right side cowl area. The probe works correctly in ambient air or in any other fluid. The gauge was within +/- 2F from 30F - 150F in a calibrated temperature chamber I have access to at work. The gauge only goes down to 30F....wish it went lower.

I put one of these on. Mounted on the flat spot above the left headlight housing under the instrument cluster. Probe sticks out one of the holes where the factory fogs mount.

Good to know they still make these! I used one like this for years on my ST1100's and they work good. Not waterproof and the display will fade away if exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods (but returns).
