On a forest road at about 5000 ft....kinda forgot it was February.....SNOW..........dumped the bike twice and got myself into a rather scary situation where both times I went down it was on my left ankle......sore as hell......anyway.....I had the bike on TC1....Have to say I actually forget about traction control......very effective in getting out of the slippery stuff....I assume I saved some clutch life.

Slow speed, low impact crashes, I suspect. It really does work. Outcomes are variable, but at the very least, I think it ameliorates the impending potential doom. I was doing the hairpin curve on the Steward-Cassiar a couple years ago. Gravel. Pouring rain. I had to goose it to start back up the hill, and in a split second, before my back tire could skid out from under me, TC kicked in and I remained upright. Mighty fine !!!!! I like it. OK, let's be careful out there. R

A friend on another S10 was following me up a steep dirt road that turned to washboard. Forgetting to stop and switch to TC2, the bike started cutting power when the back wheel was hopping on the washboard. For a moment, I was wondering if so much intrusion from TC1 was going to result in me not making it up the hill. I was laughing, because I knew my buddy was in TC1 as well, and when I stopped at the top of the hill, I could see him pulling up behind me shaking his head. He said, "Damn traction control, I wish it was switchable on the fly!!!" I have to agree with him.

This is funny as I was about to praise the performance of this bike with it off and S mode and CJM on. On the pavement this beast runs like a scalded Cat with it off it seemed to get better gas MPG as well!! ::003::

Mode 2 on the forest roads but deep stuff and hills off in T mode I like that tractor pull feel.

Wet road in Tacoma + cold tires. Rear end let go before I could blink, but the computer said "nope" and all things were right with the world...

I was intentionally trying to see TC1 work on a wet "tar pond" (all tar, no gravel on a chip seal road). The bike hit the tar which was like ice. The bike twitched hard to the right about a foot, the TC light went off, and I praised the bike for outriding my own stupidity. In fairness, I would have never done something so dumb without TC.

Ramsybella,
I may as well come clean. I was thinking shortly after you bought a Tenere that came with 21/18 wheels, that you would be less than enchanted and be wanting to put the "tour" back in your Tenere. Figured I would see you probing about it, at least.

But, it appears you were the right guy for that exact bike, as unique as it is. You definitely use it the way the previous owner thought he was going to.

I did think a bit before I went to Colorado to buy this bike but when I am without a bike for more than a month I get all twitchy and Bitchy as well!!
I knew when i got on this bike after the Triumph I would struggle with buying it it's a totally different Wombat. But after the accident i had to change my tune and pace.
The 21/18 is good on and off road and are heavy solid rims.
My limitations with it is tire options, I plan on a trip to Great Basin NP this May and am putting on a set of Pirelli MT 90 Scorpion A/T's for more road use. I am working on getting a new rear shock and fork springs to get the geometry stable on this bike front end wobble at 30 mph due to the larger and lighter front end and planted ride, but that happens if i take my hands off the bars.
I will tour on a moped if I could so not a problem this is a Do all bike and I love it, I think once i get the Pirelli's on I can see Hooligan coming on again with the TC off!! ::013::
Some of the roads i would tear A$$ on with the Tiger are not as easy with knobby tires as you can Imagine.. :'(
If you ever get to New Mexico go from Cloudcroft,NM take CR-244 down to SR-70 that go's to Ruidoso<->Tularosa,NM.
This road is one of the best wide open throttle huge sweeper turns and easy high speed twisty's I have ever encountered as of yet.. It's a good 30 minutes of pure adrenaline fun!! ::008:: 261 miles from Lubbock, TX.. http://goo.gl/maps/iUA4E
