The 1050XA (Canadian model with the bells and whistles) was one of the possible options when I was bike shopping. It was $2k cheaper than a S10. I had demoed a 2019 1000 adventure, and ridden a few different 1000's prior to that. I like the engine. I like the clutch. I like the gear ratios. The handling isn't bad either. The power is okay, not exactly exciting. If you're not going to be doing 2-up, the 650 is actually the better bike.
With the 1050XA, the wife and I sat on one, spent probably 45 minutes in the show room trying out riding positions, and seeing if it would work for us. Since I'm on this board, you can probably guess, we picked the S10. If I wasn't doing 2-up riding, the 1050XA would have been a real contender, because they finally added all the needed features; traction control, with modes; variable engine modes; nice height adjustable windscreen; a dash that doesn't look 20 years old. Sadly, she was too small. The seat adjustment for height is clunky too, and requires tools and about 10 minutes of struggle; I made the sales guy change it into the high position for me.
