Thats a cool story. Nice.I dig this photo of Steve.
I remember my dad telling me the story of meeting Steve at the movie location in Germany, about 1962 (The Great Escape) My dad and his friends hung out around the filming location, and got yelled at for being 'in the shot'.. (My dad is actually in the film, but out on a fence watching the movie being made. Not in the movie shoot itself, allthough he was invited to be int he movie) Steve actually told him to come over to the front and he would put him in as an extra... He didn't want to skip school to go do that. My granddad looked like a movie star, and was a military SOB. My dad as a kid looked like a movie star and could have been in the Great Escape. But did not want the wrath of my granddad........
Steve needed help with a small part on his bicycle out side the filming grounds. My dad, and his friends took him down the street to get him the part at a little bicycle shop. My dad tells me, Steve grabbed the little pad / invoice pad / carbon copy, and pulled off a page........ He flipped it over and wrote this note and gave it to my dad..... Ive seen the original in my hands before. I believe its a very well know that Steve did not sign autographs... Evidently, his autograph is very rare..... Just a fun cool story....
