Didn't FredZ post some pics with some instructions awhile back showing the additional carrier under the pax seat being converted to be flush with the rear carrier? The owners manual says to see your dealer in order to use it. Thanks

Yes, I posted a video on the youtube channel of www.niehauscycle.com when we had the Euro display unit here in January. It was a simple process. and was even in the Euro owners manual. Someone a few weeks ago posted that they had to do some dremel work to get the rack to fit and I was puzzled by that. Well, yesterday I did the conversion on mine and lo and behold, I had to do a bit of dremel grinding in two spots to clear the passenger hand holds. After that, all was the same. We had a visit by a Yamaha employee this morning that works with the demo units. He has ridden over 1,000 miles on their Super Teneres and they have done a lot of research, etc on them. By the way, he has been riding a long time and says he now has a new all time favorite bike!. Getting back to the rack, he said they changed the angle of the passenger hand holds on later models and that is why some clearance work is required. Not a big deal and it only has to be done the first time.

Thanks Fred I tried the view all option but must have missed it. I'm going out now to make it happen.

Update just did the conversion piece of cake and instead of doing any dremel work I loosened up the hand holds then dropped the platform in place then snugged up the handrails but did not smoke them down so they wouldn't crack the plastic. You could even remove the handrails in this config but I'm going to try it this way and have added protection holding my laptop in place while in transport.

Good information. I plan on doing this mod in the next couple of days. What is the part(s) that need to be dremel'd or avoided? If it is a bolt, could a washer be used to create the space?

What happens is when you go to install the smaller platform in place it does not clear the handrails or hand holds which ever way you want to describe them. I guess some folks are talking a dremel to either the handholds or the small platform and taking some material off to have enough clearance that the small rack sits flush. I chose to loosen the four bolts on the hand holds then drop the small platform in place then snug up the hold holds. I guess you could space out the hold holds are even space under the small platform. Keep in mind the video doesn't show it but there are two very long bolts that hold the assembly together in the passenger seat mode that are put to the side they are not used in the extended platform mode. You will see what I mean it's common sense stuff.

I chose to dremel a little notch on each side of the carrier where it would touch the handholds. As mentioned, you could probably put a few washers on the handhold bolts to space them out a bit.

Here's my solution, Vince. I eliminated the plastic rear carrier and put a pair of aluminum racks on from Touratech. Also got the Givi E21's and the large CalSci windshield attached.
BTW, pix are too big, so you have to click to see. I'm still trying to figure this image thing out.

Anyone know if the Altrider carrier will work in the low position without modification? I was contemplating buying one of those once they are in stock.

Yes, if you install the Altrider rack without it's additional support the rack is level with the under seat carrier.

Re: The Additional Carrier? with Altrider rack

Anyone have any photos of the Altrider installed with the "additional support"?

Is the "additional support" the same as the cubby?
The Altrider instructions indicate the rack can be installed without the cubby to match the height of the under seat carrier.

I emailed Altrider about this a while back and if I recall they said the rack was too wide to be used with the grab handles. I imagine you could add some spacers to make the handles wider and make it work. Turns out it wont be an issue for me anyways...... I scrapped my passenger handles so I could get my Jesse's snugged in as much as possible! ::013::

The 'additional support' is the formed aluminum piece that makes up the 'cubby' space.
