Of all the bikes I've owned, (about 7, no HD's) I typically would never see another one on the road. Fairly popular models too.
Nobody knows what a Super Tenere is, I didn't know too much about them until I bought one and now I've spotted 3 around town last couple of weeks.
::003::

I went by my dealer last weekend and one of the salesman commented he was glad I got the 2012 Tenere off the lot. ::)

After 3000 miles and 6 months .... in Florida I have seen 3 Super Tenere bikes.

Often when I park many people come up and ask me what I am riding and often say it is a nice looking bike. (In florida 90% are cruisers and 90% of them HD so the S10 is the new girl on the block)

My dealer just sold a 2015 Super Tenere a week ago. It had been on the floor for a couple of months. One of the owners of the shop said to me he could not understand why they weren't selling a boatload of Super Teneres. In his view, the Super Ten is one of the best bikes on the road, period. He is a multi-line dealer as well (Yamaha, Triumph, Victory, Suzuki, Kawasaki.)

While I know 2 local guys with them, we've never crossed paths out in the wild, but have been at bike nights and other events together with them.
I think I've only seen one out on a ride, right outside of my neighborhood. No idea of who it might have been, but the roads near me are popular with motorcyclists to get to the better roads further north.

I nearly never see another one on the road here. I apparently show my excitement when I do. My riding buddies think I am mildly retarded.

I think some of it must be all the mediocre reviews of the Tenere the mag's put out by "expert" riders.
I got to admit though, it took a while to really like mine and can't think of another bike to replace it with now.

That's funny. :D
I have yet to see one on the road. But I kinda like it that way. Have a lot of people come up to me and ask what it is and are surprised that Yamaha makes it.
Upsets my brother cause more than once when we are getting gas people ignore him on his $30,000 Harley and check out my bike.
Took it to the local shop and the mechanic couldn't stop staring at it. I think he was in love with it.... ::022::

There's a lot of factors for the "stealth" popularity of our bikes. I just got back from a drive up to Denver, and I saw a few STs, but far more BMW GSs and HDs. My analogy is that the BMW and HD bikes are the "popular" kids, and once you live with them for a while, you find all their "quirks" while the ST is girl next door, usually overlooked all the time, but easily the one you find yourself getting along with best :)

I like that AVgeek. The girl next door was always the treasure most people ignored.

On my Grand Canyon trip in June, I covered over three thousand miles and never saw another ST. Looking forward to the Utah gathering .

I don't have enough fingers to count the Calgary guys, plenty of St's here.
A few guys are on their second ST's to boot!

They are popping up here and there in the PNW but they still are a very misunderstood bike and not often seen at the watering holes and taverns.
I get "The three questions" a lot"
1) What it is?
2) Who makes it?
3) How big is it?
followed by the last one of course "how do you like it"?
Even hardcore riders will look at these things, the hardware and overall package is simply a gearheads dream bike.
Of course, the BMW's are still the most recognized of the ADV bikes and most people know what that is at the 1st glance.
The Tenere is really a great design and well made and offers the best package out there right out of the box.
(I'm on my second one)

I've seen 2:

1. Stopped by random dude at a stoplight with one. He's never heard of this forum.
2. SE Florida ADV group meets a popular biker gas station/bar in the mornings. Random guy on an S10 pulls up and we invite him to go with us. He joined and rode around with us for 3 hours.

And that's all I've seen in person for the past 7 months of owning this bike.

When I had a R1200GS Adventure... I rarely saw another on the road. When I had a KLR, I might have seen two or three. When I cruise the interstates, Harleys are what you see. I love my (second) Super Tenere and don't need others to validate my decision. They are great all around bikes... without all that prima donna shit that comes from the Europeans. I probably won't buy a KTM just because they come from the same continent as BMW and Ducati. Love to ride the Europeans... but not really owning them.

Here's to the great Yamaha model of reliability! and 28,000 mile valve checks.
