Thanks for the Help - New '17 ES Today

Picked up my ’17 ES today. Got to ride a few miles and so far impressed. ::008::

Thanks to all here who provide insightful comments about what the bike is really like. The more I read on this forum, the more I knew the Super Ten would be a good choice for me. Looking forward to lots of dirt roads (were the FJR does not like to go).

I love my Tenere so much, that the FJR has turned into my kid's. The FJR is a great bike, but I enjoy the versatility of the Tenere for everyday use!

Coming off an FJR myself. Waiting on my 17 ES.
Expecting it to be as good as the Feej. These forum boards and the collective knowledge helped in locking into a S10.

My FJR didn't seem to mind the gravel, it was my bunghole. Always puckered! It only gets a couple thousand miles a year anymore, but I still love it and have to keep it.

You will love your new Super Tenere. And coming off a fine piece like the FJR, prepare to be surprised and delighted by the handling of the Super Tenere. I was!

I find the stock BW tires marginal on gravel. Yesterday on a stretch of gravel with a strong cross wind was "interesting". Dirt's better.

And the Tenere suspension handles "crappy" roads SO much better than the FJR. ES to ES. Of course it is still an apples to oranges comparison. ::022::

The BW's on the Super Tenere are way better than PR2's on gravel.

I love both bikes. And every day it is a struggle to decide which one to ride. The Super Tenere is the frequent winner.

This seems like such a recurring theme. I also came from the FJR to the S Ten. The transition seems to go something like this:

You get your FJR Home and get to know it a little bit. Then:

1. Dang this thing is fast!
2. This four cylinder is smooth, with an oh so pleasant hint of character
3. This thing is high quality
4. This thing feels like it will run forever
5. This seating position is tough on my knees/wrists/shoulders

Then you get your S Ten home and get to know it a bit. Then:

1. This seating postion is kind to my knees/wrists shoulders, but the bike seems a bit lacking on horsepower
2. This thing feels like it will run forever
3. This thing is high quality
4. This two cylinder is smooth, with an oh so pleasant hint of character
5. Dang this thing is fast!

It's a different kinda fast though. The FJR power comes on in a rush. The Tenere power just happens, and you're speeding. ::001::

The FJR is all about the velvety smooth turbine - like power. The engine is like a big electric motor, twist the throttle and feel the acceleration. Its like being in a fighter jet.

The Tenere engine is the unstoppable lumpy locomotive sound when accelerating, while the overall bike is the do-all Chevy Tahoe SUV. Border Patrol beats the crap out of theirs daily by bouncing around off road (TBDBITW) while others get dolled up and never leave pavement.

All this fine talk is making my wait that much more excruciating! Just saying.
And on this side a FJR friend shoots email with info on all FS Roads, trails and tracks - in the close by North GA mountains - for me to use to familiarize myself with my S10.

I didn't know the Border Patrol bought Teneres!

Well put! I didn't know anybody was using Yamaha for Law Enforcement (LE). Makes sense; capable AND low bid. They're probably not equipped by Yamaha; Yamaha has refused, in the past, to supply LE bikes to the US. Too many lawsuits.
