Yeeeehaaawwwww!!!
Picked up my Super Tenere yesterday afternoon. Sadly, I didn't have time to take a ride other than from the dealer to my place yesterday, and I was busy most of the day today. By the time I got free, it was around 5:00 or so and it was just too dang hot to ride. I'll be sure to take 'er out for a nice ride tomorrow.
I thought I was getting blue, and it turned out to be black (no huge deal to me, but wish I knew before I bought a blue jacket and gloves). The Dealer told me that even though I didn't order through the PDP, they put the warranty in my name so I should be able to get the $200 cashback from Yamaha with my coupon. Time will tell on whether that proves to be true. However, the dealer took $50 off MSRP and waived the $175 setup fee just in case I couldn't get it. Nice touch, as they didn't really have to do that.
- * Insurance was about 20% cheaper than my last bike ('09 VStar 1100) with the same coverage through Progressive
- * The ride was great. It was exactly as I remembered it from the demo ride (smooth, turned great, very well behaved)
- * I'll play around with the suspension a bit to get it more to my liking
- * It was nearly impossible to tell how heavy the bike really is while you're riding it
- * It was very easy to tell how heavy the bike really is when I pushed it to its parking spot
- * I'm 6' tall so I'll have to move the windshield up or get a taller one
- * The turn signals don't automatically cancel, which is surprising for a bike with so much an advanced technology
- * I'm going to have to be careful about speed, as 75 on the highway seems like 50
- * I'm going to look for a cruise control system, which will save my wrist on long rides
- * T-mode is better for the highway and fuel economy (although it's still quite peppy in 1st from a full stop)
- * S-mode is absolutely wherein the beast lies
- * I like the big orange turn signals -- bigger = more visible = safer
- * The front turn signals are a bit floppy, but nothing of concern
- * I have no plans to replace the turn signals with LEDs
- * Rear view mirrors are great -- no vibration at 75 MPH
- * Caught about 10 minutes of light rain on the drive back with no issues, and all was dry by the time I got home
- * When I got closer to home I noticed some heat from the radiator on my left thigh
- * I'll have to watch and listen closely for fan operation, as I didn't hear any fan noise on my ride back
- * I smelled a slight burning oil smell when I put the bike away -- I'm pretty sure it was just a new bike thing
- * Tires are Metzeler Tourances, not the Bridgestone Battlewings
- * Also have the unused cable thingie on the left switch housing
- * I've got VIN #427, so I'll call this bike "The Cobra"
- * No plans to install any accessories at this time, at least until I get more comfortable with the bike
- * The gap between the bottom of the headlights is kinda ugly -- needs something like fog lights, maybe something else?
- * I think I've decided I'll be taking a trip in the next couple of weeks -- maybe San Antonio or Austin?
Took a few pics, see below!
